This is creepy AF!
A Tennessee school board is in hot water after a Washington County official named Keith Ervin gushed about a student’s looks — on camera! And all the other school board members did was laugh or not intervene! WTF!?!
A video from Thursday is now making the rounds on social media. It’s from a livestream of a Washington County Schools board meeting. In it, Kevin is seen wrapping his arm around a student — said to be a high school senior and a minor. He then told her:
“God you’re hot, you know that?”
WHAT!

He then disturbingly asked her:
“Where do you go to school at?”
Dude, what?! The girl uncomfortably laughed as she revealed she attends David Crockett High School.
Satisfied, the board member replied, “All right.” The room erupted in a little laughter before moving on. That’s right. Nobody — none of the other adults in the room — called Kevin out for that inappropriate remark! Watch:
The clip has since gone viral with a Change.org petition gaining over 3K signatures in favor of removing Ervin from the board, as well as Superintendent Jerry Boyd for laughing “at this utterly disrespectful remark.” The petition alleged:
“This is not the first time Keith Ervin has been in trouble for inappropriate conduct. Despite previous incidents, he maintained his position, raising questions about the accountability and integrity of those in power within our education system. Allowing such behavior to continue sets a poor example for our children and undermines the moral and ethical standards expected of educators and officials entrusted with our children’s education and welfare.”
Yeah, that’s really concerning, if true.
Brad Arnett, who created the petition, also called out the whole board, claiming the officials “protect each other” as part of a “good ole boy system.” He told WSMV:
“As a father of both a boy and a girl, I was appalled by the video, as anyone who is a decent human being should be.”
Education board chair Annette Buchanan later agreed that the comment “objectified and diminished” the student.
Soooo, what does the school board member have to say for himself? Frankly, his excuse makes it all SO MUCH WORSE!
Speaking to WJHL on Friday, Kevin argued this is all a big misunderstanding. He wasn’t calling the student hot as in attractive but hot as in… smart. Huh??? He explained:
“I had a student board member beside me, and we was talking, and she got up and was asking questions, and [she] just thoroughly impressed me and the other board members. I was. She was a top-notch student board member, and she was asking real smart questions. And I reached over, and I touched her on the shoulder, and I said, ‘You’re hot. You’re — you’re good. You’re one of the best I’ve seen.’”
He insisted:
“I didn’t mean nothing by it. She was just, she was on fire. She asked good questions, and I was bragging about her.”
Another reason he wants to be let off the hook?
“And, you know, I’m old school. I’m an old farm boy. And I didn’t mean nothing by anything. I just was proud of her.”
Not helping his case… It doesn’t matter how “old school” you are — it’s never OK to speak inappropriately to a minor!
But he doubled down:
“There’s a lot of context missing. You got to watch the whole meeting to see how impressive the student board member is. I don’t know what to say. I’m just, I was impressed.”
Hmm… yeah, we’re not sure any amount of context would make telling a student she’s “hot” in any connotation okay! Especially not with touching on top of it! Meanwhile, the Superintendent said in a statement:
“As far as the comment made by the board member, just like any individual board member, whether it’s the vote they cast or the comments that they make, they need to be the ones to respond to questions about what their intent was in their comments or if it’s about a vote, they make it. They need to explain, as elected officials, what was behind their vote or their comment.”
The Washington County Board of Education is set to hold an emergency hearing on Wednesday to discuss the “grossly inappropriate comment,” they said in a statement shared with People. Annette added in a statement:
“Mr. Ervin knows his own intentions, but the rest of us have to judge his words and his actions. What we saw was shocking. He objectified and diminished a young woman publicly. No explanation can justify that. I anticipate the Board will consider and approve a motion to censure Mr. Ervin for his comment.”
Many in the community are calling for more to be done, but Kevin, who is seeking re-election, can only be removed from his position if there’s a recall, and that requires support from two-thirds of registered voters who cast ballots last time. So, it may not be so easy to get him out. But a protest has been planned for outside the emergency hearing.
