Heartbreaking news for the music world today… We’ve lost a true legend. Brian Wilson has passed away at the age of 82.
Brian was the heart, soul, and mind of The Beach Boys in their ’60s heyday. He’s responsible for writing enduring hits like I Get Around, Wouldn’t It Be Nice, and of course the all-timer wedding song God Only Knows.
In a statement to his official Facebook page, Brian’s family wrote:
“We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away. We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love & Mercy.”
So sad…
No cause of death has been revealed, but Brian had been living with a dementia-like neurocognitive disorder for years.
Of course, the musical prodigy had long suffered mental health issues. His struggles while in the studio trying to create his masterpiece have become as famous as the man himself. This was all depicted in the 2014 biopic Love & Mercy.
Such a loss for music…
