Europe Wants To Ban Chanel N°5 & Other Designer Scents!

They really don’t like those Brad Pitt commercials, eh?
The European Union is looking to ban the iconic Chanel N├é┬░5 fragrance as well as Dior‘s Miss Dior and Angel by Thierry Mugler because they contain allergens.
The EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety claims the scents are putting citizens at risk by including some of the 100 allergens that are regularly mixed into fragrances.
Really? Chanel N├é┬░5’s been around for 90 years and they’re just now becoming concerned!?
In fact, the committee wants to ban tree moss, which is bottled in N°5 and Miss Dior, all together. They also want manufacturers to list any of the 100 allergens on the product packaging, instead of the previously required 26 allergens.
Not surprisingly fashion houses and perfumers think the proposed regulations stink!
Sylvie Jourdet, president of the French Perfumer’s Society, Sylvie Jourdet blasted the committee, saying:

“Chanel N├é┬░5 has never done any harm to anyone. It is the death of perfume if this continues. The more you use natural ingredients, the more there is a risk of allergies. Lemon, jasmine, bergamot all contain allergenics.”

Fran├â┬ºoise Montenay, a non-executive chairwoman of Chanel, echoed Jourdet’s sentiments, adding:

“It would be the end of beautiful perfumes if we could not use these ingredients.”

LVMH is concerned by the smelly situation because “it is essential to preserve Europe’s olfactory cultural heritage,” and they will do just that by providing an industry proposal by the end of this year.
Industry sources say the regulatory proposals aren’t expected until 2014, but the commission didn’t give a time frame for the possible legislation.
Thoughts???
