Jenna Fischer has a shocking health update to share.
On Tuesday, everyone’s favorite receptionist took to Instagram to share news that she was diagnosed with Stage 1 Triple Positive Breast Cancer last year. The 50-year-old, who iconically played Pam Beesly on The Office for eight years, shared a photo of herself taken by co-star and Office Ladies podcast co-host Angela Kinsey’s husband Josh Snyder. In the photo, she’s holding a white and pink mug while sporting a black blazer, white t-shirt, polka dot headband, and short hair. She wrote:
“October is breast cancer awareness month. I never thought I’d be making an announcement like this but here we are. Last December, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Triple Positive Breast Cancer.”
Nooo! Not Pam! But through the miracle that is modern medicine and technology, Jenna happily revealed that she is now “cancer free.” She wrote:
“After completing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation I am now cancer free.”
Hooray! What amazing news!
The Blades of Glory star added about the pic:
“I wanted a photo of myself in my patchy pixie looking happy and healthy to go along with this news. A big thank you to Angela Kinsey’s husband Josh Snyder for taking this photo. It’s just one example of the care they showed me during this journey.”
Jenna also shared several slides giving more insight into her journey with the deadly disease. She revealed that after “inconclusive results” during a mammogram last October, her doctor “ordered a breast ultrasound.” After discovering a nodule and taking a biopsy, Jenna was told she had cancer on December 1. And while she revealed Triple Positive Breast Cancer is “aggressive,” the TV star noted it’s also “highly responsive to treatment.” So, in January she underwent a lumpectomy to remove the tumor before it had the chance to spread. Then in February, she began “12 rounds of weekly chemotherapy,” and in June, “three weeks of radiation.” She also shared that while she’s still being “treated with infusions of Herceptin and a daily dose of Tamoxifen,” she’s “feeling great.”

Jenna also revealed she lost her hair during her chemotherapy journey, but “thanks to some great wigs and hats with hair,” she’s been able to keep her diagnosis private. She told followers:
“I’m making this announcement for a few reasons. One, I’m ready to ditch the wigs. Two, to implore you to get your annual mammograms.”
She revealed that if she had waited even six months longer for hers, “things could have been much worse.” She also thanked all of her doctors and nurses, whom she affectionately referred to as “angels,” as well as the limited friends and family members who were in the know that provided endless support for her.

She gave a special shoutout to her longtime BFF Angela, who “protected” and “advocated” for her, and even wore hats with her to work meetings so that Jenna “wouldn’t be the only one.” As for her kids, Jenna said they took the “journey as a family.”

Finally, she thanked her husband Lee Kirk, who was by her side through all the “surgeries, chemotherapy, doctor appointments, endless googling, late night ugly cries,” and all. And at the end of it all when she got her clean bill of health, they celebrated as a family.
Jenna left off:
“Take it from Pam Pam and her Pam Pams. Michael [Scott] was right. Get ’em checked ladies. And know that should you get a breast cancer diagnosis, there is a village waiting to care for you.

We’re so happy to hear she’s healthy! In the comments, Angela supportively wrote, “I love you and I’m so glad you’re sharing. I got your back, always.
” Jennifer Garner also chimed in to add, “Congratulations, @msjennafischer !! I’m so grateful to know you’re on the other side and cancer free!” While Katie Couric wrote, “Jenna! Thank you for sharing this and so happy you’re doing well.”
Like Jenna said, get yourself checked!
