Melania Trump puts up with a lot of Donald Trump‘s antics, but this simple sleepover request?? She wanted NOTHING to do with it!
In the new book Regime Change by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, per Radar Online on Tuesday, they claim Melania and Donald had a big disagreement when he allowed an unwanted guest to stay over at the White House!
While she was normally fine with visitors, Melania had one person she refused to let stay over: Trump’s one-time bestie, Elon Musk!
Apparently, Elon once asked the President if he could sleep over and he was fine with it, but Melania put up a big fight. Trump ultimately won, and the Tesla founder got to stay several nights in the Lincoln Bedroom. A passage from the book details:
“Other nights he stayed with friends … though he also told associates he had taken to using a sleeping bag on the floor of his office in the Eisenhower Building.”

Elon would even brag to reporters about the visit, telling them he stayed at the White House “more than once.” According to Musk, POTUS asked him where he was staying while they were traveling on Air Force One. Musk didn’t know at the time and was then invited to the White House and given a private tour, he recalled in May 2025:
“The president’s, very, very, I guess we’re good friends and we’ll be on Air Force One or Marine One and then he’s like, ‘Hey do you want to stay over?’ and I’m like, ‘Sure.’ And then he gave me a tour of the Lincoln Bedroom and… oh, this is cool. … I didn’t request it, to be sure.”
Praising the Republican’s hosting skills, he added:
“He’ll actually call, like late at night, and say, like, ‘Oh, by the way, make sure you get some ice cream from the kitchen.'”
And so Elon did just that, eating “a whole tub of ice cream” — specifically caramel, Häagen-Dazs.
Well, he better have enjoyed it while it lasted because Elon’s not getting an invite anytime soon — and not because Melania hates it! He and Donny have been embroiled in a public feud for months, though things seemed to be okay-ish when they both attended a China summit in May.
