Christian Louboutin is getting some support from the color red’s biggest rival: blue!
On Tuesday, Tiffany & Co. filed a brief supporting the shoe maker’s quest to prove to Judge Victor Marrero is wrong and it is possible to have a trademark on the color red.
If anyone should know about trademarking a color it’s Tiffany. In 1998 the company registered its signature Tiffany blue trademark for packaging.
A lawyer for Tiffany & Co. said of their filing:
“Tiffany is not taking sides in this dispute. We are only trying to assure that this area of the law is not disturbed by an overbroad decision in the lower court.”
Yves Saint Laurent is taking the latest development as a grain of salt because they believe Judge Marrero’s decision was the right one.
An attorney for YSL added “We look forward to responding to Louboutin├óΓé¼Γäós and Tiffany├óΓé¼Γäós briefs in due course.”
