Something terrifying just happened to those at the Today Show.
On Thursday, chaos broke out at Studio 1A in Rockefeller Center when an intruder broke in and targeted Today hosts! According to TMZ, the intruder, who was reportedly a white man wearing a backpack, somehow breached the building and lunged at Craig Melvin before shouting the N-word at him.
WTF! How awful…
Law enforcement sources told the outlet the intruder was allegedly looking for Al Roker, 71, and when he couldn’t find him, turned his attention to Craig. Those at Today issued the following statement to TMZ:
“There was a security incident this morning at the TODAY show studio. An individual entered an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A. The person approached anchor Craig Melvin, who alerted security. The individual was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident. There was no altercation, and no one was injured.”

The news station added:
“TODAY is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter. NBC and TODAY take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously. We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios.”
How scary!
Another source spoke to Page Six about the incident, noting 30 Rockefeller Center is “a difficult place for security because it’s … really public.”
“There’s a coffee shop inside the area that staff use to get in and out. People come in with entourages — all the celebrities have like 12 people with them, so it’s not unusual for a whole group of people to be going through security at once.”
They added:
“I don’t think it’s like they don’t care. It’s just a complicated place to do security. I imagine there will be meetings today though.”
Wow… Absolutely chilling!
But while Craig is reeling from being the victim of alleged racial harassment, the source noted everyone else who is a part of the show was also spooked because they “were already on edge because of Savannah [Guthrie].” As we know, Savannah’s mother Nancy Guthrie was abducted in February never to be seen again.
Truly so chilling. Thankfully, the intruder was promptly arrested after the disturbing incident. The New York Police Department released the following statement:
“On Thursday, July 16, 2026, at approximately 0857 hours, a uniformed officer assigned to 30 Rockefeller Center was alerted to a disorderly individual inside the building. Immediately thereafter, the responding officer entered into the building and placed the individual in custody without incident. There were no injuries reported, and the investigation remains active and ongoing. Charges are pending.”
So freaky!
It should be noted that Craig and Al went on to both appear on Thursday’s installment of Today without missing a beat. It couldn’t have been easy to carry on as if nothing had happened! You can watch the episode (below):
