Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman have come a long way since their divorce. But after years of no talking and gradually thawing the ice, they’ve turned a corner and are reportedly — finally — ready to reunite!
Now, we’ve heard these rumors before. Last year, there was talk that the Mission Impossible star was willing to reunite with his ex-wife on behalf of their kids. And he was even going to try to get on better terms with Keith Urban, who’s not in the picture anymore. But now, there’s an even more emotional reason pulling the two back together.
Radar Online sources revealed on Friday that the exes have opened lines of communication again after the tragic deaths of their friends Rob and Michele Reiner.

As Perezcious readers know, the director and his wife were killed in their home, allegedly by their son in December. It’s a painful loss for many in Hollywood, but especially Tom and Nicole, who knew the pair from way back, an insider expressed:
“Tom met Nicole around the same time Rob and Michele became a couple, and their relationships followed a similar arc.”
Tom and Nicole reportedly leaned on one another amid their grief, a source shared:
“They have been reminiscing about how close they were to them when they were a young couple.”
This included double dates, according to the source. Aw! So tough.
Tom and Nicole’s reconnection comes as she’s also been planning to visit with her once-estranged kids, Isabella, 33, and Connor, 31, and now it’s going to be become a family affair! The insider dished:
“Nicole knows her kids are really looking forward to having their parents in the same room again, so she’s determined to follow through.”
Emphasizing what a massive step this is, the confidant continued:
“It’s a huge step because she and Tom didn’t even speak for so long, but enough time has passed that they’ve both been able to let it go.”
It helps that they’ve been able to soften amid the loss of their friends:
“They’ve had some really positive conversations recently, which has everyone hoping this could actually move forward.”
While reunions have been floated in the past, there’s really nothing like a shared grief to bring people together, the source acknowledged:
“It was a gut check for Tom about how much he and Nicole shared and still have in common. They’re supporting each other through all this. … Finally they’re at a place where they are ready to break bread together.”
Aaaaand, of course, they are also both single right now! Of course, The Perfect Couple star recently split from her husband Keith Urban and Tom’s romance with Ana de Armas fizzled over the summer. So, that helps!
