Tom Cruise 'Has No Part' In Suri's Life As She Applies For College

And just like that, Suri Cruise is all grown up!

In the blink of an eye, the 16-year-old has gone from the young child of the early 2000s “it” couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes to a high school senior already applying for college!

Sadly, as the years have gone by, Suri’s only grown more and more estranged from her famous father — so much so, he won’t have ANY part in her higher education decisions!

Per a source close to the Dawson’s Creek alum who spoke with DailyMail.com on Tuesday, Suri “has sent some applications out” and is “leaning towards” studying fashion in New York City, where she currently lives with her momma. The teenager reportedly has an expensive AF wardrobe worth around $5 million (!!!) — so, it’s not hard to see she has a strong interest in clothes!

While Katie is understandably “overwhelmed” by the idea of becoming an empty nester, she’s super supportive of the process. The insider dished:

“Suri is applying to schools all over the place. [Katie] really does want her to stay in New York so they can be close to each other. Katie takes great pride in her but is also extremely overprotective.”

The same cannot be said for the Mission Impossible star, who “has no part” in his daughter’s life after losing contact with Suri one year after the couple divorced in 2012 reportedly over Katie’s concerns about raising their daughter as a Scientologist. The Oscar winner still maintains a relationship with his adopted children, Isabella, 30, and Connor, 28, whom he shares with Nicole Kidman. Similarly, all three cut the Big Little Lies alum off after she divorced Tom in 2001 and left the religion. So sad.

While Tom does “not have a part in [Suri’s] life” and won’t be influencing her college decision, he will help fund her experience. The source noted the Top Gun lead will pay Suri’s college tuition costs, as was decided in the exes’ divorce agreement. According to the divorce docs, the 60-year-old actor agreed to pay the actress $400,000 a month until Suri turned 18. He also agreed to pay all of his daughter’s expenses, such as “medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs.” This has never been a problem for the action star, the insider told the outlet:

“Tom has always maintained his responsibilities when it comes to financial obligations to Katie and Suri.”

We suppose money’s better than nothing, but damn. What a tough outcome for the teen. Fortunately, it sounds like Suri has handled the lack of a father figure in her life as best as she can. Another insider said Katie hasn’t let Tom’s decision to not visit their child affect her upbringing, explaining:

“Being raised by a single mom in New York has made Suri who she is. Katie has always put Suri first and Suri loves her mom more than anything.”

They added:

“She is a smart girl, and she is turning into a very intelligent mature woman. She has a very close group of loyal friends, and she knows exactly where she comes from.”

Aside from her love of fashion, Suri is a talented musician and may also study music in school. She was featured on the soundtrack of her mom’s film Alone Together and will be on the soundtrack for the upcoming film Rare Objects. Pretty cool! Entertainment runs in the family!
