Tristan Thompson is back in the headlines, and this time it’s not about his love life drama or his basketball prowess.
No, this time around, the NBA vet is making a serious and deeply personal legal move that’s turning heads for very different reasons.
According to newly surfaced court documents first obtained and reported on by TMZ on Tuesday, Tristan is seeking to step up his role in a major way when it comes to his younger brother, Amari Thompson. That’s right: in the docs, the athlete has reportedly filed to place Amari, who is disabled, under a conservatorship.

This isn’t just a casual legal tweak, either. Tristan is asking for full authority over some of the most important aspects of his brother’s life, including access to records, the ability to make medical decisions, and even control over educational matters.
And it doesn’t stop there. Tristan is also requesting the power to oversee Amari’s social and sexual interactions, claiming it’s necessary to protect him — which also underscores just how seriously the basketball star is taking his responsibilities.
This all comes after a heartbreaking chapter for the family. As we have of course reported, their mother Andrea Brooks passed away in January 2023, leaving Tristan to take on a caretaker role for Amari. Since then, he’s been the primary person looking out for his brother’s well-being, while his ex Khloé Kardashian has also been extremely supportive.
As for their father, Trevor Thompson, Tristan claims he’s been absent for years. In the filing, he alleges Trevor hasn’t supported Amari financially and hasn’t even been in contact since 2014.
Say what you will about Tristan’s past (and goodness knows we have!), but this legal move paints a very heartening picture of the controversial star.
