Twins And Triplets Have Five Times Higher Death Rate

According to new data, twins and triplets are five times more likely to die within their first year of life than solo babies.
So sad!!
Single babies didn’t make it at a rate of 4 in every 1,000 births.
Twins had a rate of 20.4 in 1,000 and triplets were even higher with 34.9 in every 1,000!
That’s a pretty significant increase.
A theory is that the multiples are caused by fertility drugs, which tend to be taken by older women, and the older the woman, the better the chance of complications.
A suggestion to help would be to change how many embryos are inseminated and transferred.
A fertility organization said:

“There is irrefutable evidence to show a link between the practice of transferring multiple embryos and a significantly greater risk of health complications to both mother and child. Multiple births can also cause distress for the parents and family and have an unsustainable immediate and long-term financial cost for society.”

Another shocking statistic was that if the woman was under 20, her baby had a higher mortality rate.
So it seems like the ideal age is between 20 and 30.
Hopefully as modern medicine advances, all babies will live full, healthy, happy lives.
