Okay, so perhaps we’re overreacting, but we were shocked to find out that roughly 23 million Twitter user accounts are automated.
For those tech laypeople out there, automated means they’re not human (CUE: Terminator soundtrack)!
According to a new SEC filing, the social media company said that “up to 8.5%” of all Twitter accounts considered to be active were updated ├óΓé¼┼ôwithout any discernible additional user-initiated action.├óΓé¼┬¥
Some of these accounts apparently automatically request info from Twitter, but don’t actually tweet themselves!
However, only about 5% of all monthly active users are spam, and some of these bots are actually beneficial, but have no humans behind them! You know, something with an actual soul!
Although, this is apparently a problem for advertisers who want to reach actual human users.
We’ll see if we can translate this story into binary for all our Twitter bot friends.
