Thankfully, something is being done.
Yesterday, we showed you the disturbing and SHOCKING video (above) of police pepper spraying non-violent protestors at the Occupy movement on the UC Davis campus.
UC Davis Chanceloor Linda Katehi said she shared the “outrage” of students and was “deeply saddened” by the actions of the police.
She added:
“I am deeply saddened that this happened on our campus, and as chancellor, I take full responsibility for the incident. However, I pledge to take the actions needed to ensure that this does not happen again.”
Thankfully, the two police officers were placed on administrative leave and the Chancellor plans to talk with students, faculty, and staff “to listen to their concerns and hear their ideas for restoring civil discourse to the campus.”
Her response is not enough for all though. Assistant professor Nathan Brown, who works in the college’s English Department, wrote and open letter to the Chancellor:
“When students covered their eyes with their clothing, police forced open their mouths and pepper-sprayed down their throats,” Brown wrote.
I call for your resignation because you are unfit to do your job. You are unfit to ensure the safety of students at UC Davis. In fact: you are the primary threat to the safety of students at UC Davis.”
Wow. We are just as equally angry and frustrated with these incidents. We are still in shock over the use of force these police officers used on the students who were protesting peacefully. Disgusting.
