According to two recently released books about the love dogs have for their owners, Alexandra Horowitz’s Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell and Know and Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson├óΓé¼Γäós The Dog Who Couldn├óΓé¼Γäót Stop Loving, a lot of the questions we have had about dogs are answered!
Horowitz explains that a dogs nose is what really knows things about you.
Dogs can smell what you ate for lunch, if you are scared (because you sweat) and even if you have had sex! LOL!
We have heard about dogs saving people from burning buildings, this is not necessarily because they understand when people are in danger.
Apparently they can tell when something unusual, what they are not used to, is happening, and they then respond in whatever way they think is best. He may save your life, or he might just ask for some treats.
Owners often think that their dogs know right from wrong, such as if we catch our pooch sneaking some food from the table, you know that guilty look they give. However that may not be the case, Horowitz says that a dog’s look of guilt may actually be fear or submission, they know that an unhappy owner might mean punishment
Another thing that is interesting to know, is that dogs do say sorry and they accept our apologies.
Masson explains that ff a dog hurts another puppy pal of theirs, they will “play bow,” which often starts off a play session.
Also, if you step on your doggies tail and then apologize, they will often lick you to say “I forgive you.” There is no way you can pull that with a cat!!
Then of course there are some things that your dog wants you to know.
It seems that dogs don’t like raincoats, too bad, we think they look super cute! Since dogs already have a coat, the feeling of a raincoat being put on their back might feel like it does when another dog stands over and dominates them.
And finally you don’t need to be the alpha dog. Horowitz says, ├óΓé¼┼ôWe absolutely do not need to dominate them, positive reinforcement works just as well.” Sorry about that Dog Whisperer!
Did U know all this stuff about your pooch?
