We hope she knows what she has signed up for.

Joyously, Valerie Bertinelli announced her marriage to Tom Vitale this week and all seemed well in her world. However, sources have uncovered Tom’s disturbing and violent past, including allegations of being a wife beater!

The National Enquirer has revealed that Tom was married once before and has an 11 year old child with this woman, but things ended badly after his temper got the best of him. In 2001, he was arrested for allegedly attacking his now ex-wife, Sharon, by pinning her to ground. When the police arrived to intervene, he added insult to injury by resisting arrest.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

We’re told not long after that, Tom was slapped with another assault charge, this time for allegedly punching his own child! After that, he was ordered to take 12 weeks of anger management classes, in hopes that he could learn to control his rage.

They didn’t work.

A year later, he was back in court after attacking a man, ripping at his clothes and damaging a cell phone. Then, in 2004, he was put under two years of supervised probation after he got into ANOTHER violent scuffle!

And this is the man Valerie is telling her friends is her “soul mate.” Oh yeah, she knows all about his shady past, but she is telling everyone he has put it behind him. One insider explains that she’s told friends that Tom “could never hurt anybody” and that he has “always acted like the perfect gentleman to her.” Another close source to Valerie insists that Val’s “convinced that whatever problems Tom may have had, they are all in the past.”

For her sake, we hope she’s right. We want to see the good in people and believe they really can change for the better. Still, there is a lot of violent tendencies here that we simply don’t think should be ignore.

Just be careful, Val.
