Vanessa Bryant is taking steps to ensure her and Kobe‘s youngest daughter Capri will be financially taken care of for years to come.
The 37-year-old has reportedly filed for an amendment to the late Los Angeles Lakers star’s trust, which was established to provide monetary support in the event of his death. As fans know, the NBA legend and his beloved daughter Gianna were among nine people who died in a fatal helicopter crash on January 26 in Calabasas, California.

According to the legal docs, Vanessa and her husband created a trust for their kids back in 2003 after welcoming their eldest, Natalia. The couple went on to update the deed several times over the years to also include daughters Gigi and Bianka when they were born — but the most recent edit was made in 2017. The pair most likely had plans to Capri at some point, however, no one could have predicted the loving father’s life would be among those tragically cut short so soon.

Now, Mrs. Bryant is asking a judge to include her 8-month-old in Kobe’s trust, as the parents of four would’ve likely done anyway if he were still with us today. We can’t think of any reason why the request wouldn’t be approved at this point.
Once finalized in court, Capri will now be “entitled to discretionary distributions of income and principal” during her mother’s lifetime, just like her older sisters. Per terms of the trust, the remaining funds will be distributed to the longtime couple’s children upon Vanessa’s death.

It’s comforting to hear the Bryants are doing what they can to financially protect themselves and leaning on each other for support as they continue to grieve the loss of their loved ones.

As you’re likely aware, Vanessa has a few other painful legal issues on her plate right now, too. Late last month, the matriarch filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Island Express, the company who owned the helicopter that was cleared to fly during unsafe weather conditions on that fateful day in January.

The suit alleges the aircraft, piloted by the late Ara Zobayan, engaged in unnecessary and needlessly risky means of transportation under the circumstances. According to reporting from TMZ, the company does not have enough insurance to cover the damages.
We hope Vanessa and her family can continue to find comfort in each other through this difficult time.
