Wendy Williams Sobs Insisting She's Not 'Cognitively Impaired' And Feels Stuck 'In Prison' Under Strict Conservatorship In Rare Interview

Wendy Williams is speaking out about what life has been like under her harsh conservatorship.

In a very rare interview, the former talk show host called into The Breakfast Club on Thursday morning alongside her niece Alex Finnie to bring attention to the alleged wrongful legal situation she’s been stuck in for years. First off, she actually sounded really with it, despite everything her guardian Sabrina Morrissey has been saying, so that was a relief. That said, she’s clearly in distress about her current predicament and wants the public to help her get out of this mess.

The 60-year-old — who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia in 2022, per her guardian — began by explaining she’s currently being forced to live in a facility in New York where there are many elderly patients and where “nursemaids” come to her room and deliver her unknown pills. She said she feels “trapped” and isn’t allowed to leave or have visitors.

She claims she doesn’t have a laptop and has been without full access to her phone — she allegedly can only make calls but people cannot contact her — because of her guardian (who has supposedly had control of her phone for three years), making her feel extremely isolated. Hitting back at all the claims that she’s “cognitively impaired,” Wendy said:

“I am not cognitively impaired, but I feel like I am in prison. I am definitely isolated. To talk to these people who live here, that is not my cup of tea. […] I keep the door closed. I watch TV. […] I listen to the radio. I watch the window. I sit here, and my life goes by.”

She also said her cats were even taken away from her and are “gone” after having just been sold without her knowledge, despite her “wanting them with” her, and that she only has “$15” because her “money is in prison.” Jeez.

The former radio DJ later claimed her biggest wish right now is to go celebrate her father’s 94th birthday with him in Miami next month (where she ultimately wants to move to live closer to family, as well). But right now, she doesn’t think her guardian is not going to let her. WTF?

Wendy heartbreakingly then started to sob as she expressed frustration about not having the freedom to pick out a gift for her dad or possibly get the chance to see him. So awful. When asked about the Lifetime docuseries, Where Is Wendy Williams?, which her guardian filed a lawsuit to try and stop from coming out, Wendy argued:

“She was the one who wanted to do that, you understand what I’m saying? […] What do I think about being abused? Look, this system is broken, this system that I’m in. This system has falsified a lot.”

Elsewhere, she and Alex also noted that just doing this interview could put Wendy at risk of retaliatory consequences — such as losing complete access to her phone or getting moved to another facility without her family’s knowledge. She called the whole situation “emotional abuse,” crying:

“My life is f**ked up!”

Oh, no.

She really sounds so pained and worried about the future. So sad — and how stressful. That in and of itself can’t be good for her health! Hear the full interview (below).

As Perezcious readers know, Wendy’s guardian claimed she was “cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated” in October 2024. But just last month, Wendy made a rare public appearance to attend her son Kevin Hunter Jr.‘s graduation in Florida, where she seemed to be doing well. Her son also told followers on Instagram in December that this mom is “sober” and wants to “come home” because “isolation is killing her faster than anything else.”

It’s clear she is trying to make waves and get way more attention on her case by doing this interview. We hope it amounts to a positive change for her.
