After getting pushed off a cliff, Gerhardt Konig‘s wife is attempting to get some protection from her allegedly extremely jealous husband.
As we previously reported, the 46-year-old anesthesiologist was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder after cops say he pushed his 36-year-old wife off a cliff in Oahu, Hawaii — which is 1,200 feet high, though she didn’t fall all the way down — earlier this month. Local law enforcement say he also beat her with a rock and tried to poke her with two syringes after she refused to take a selfie with him at an overlook. So, so awful… but this isn’t the first time she’s had issues with her husband.

The critically injured woman, now identified as Arielle Konig, 36, filed a petition for a temporary restraining order on Gerhardt late last week after the March 24 incident, in hopes of protecting herself and the couple’s two sons, aged four and two, per The Associated Press. In her filing, she claimed the Maui doctor had accused her of having an affair back in December, which “led to extreme jealousy on his part.” She claims they’d been in therapy and counseling ever since… and yet it didn’t stop her husband’s alleged violence.
In an affidavit obtained by People on Monday, Arielle said she “did not feel comfortable” taking a picture “that close to the edge” of the cliff at the time of the incident. That’s when her spouse allegedly became enraged and “pushed her into the bushes” before hitting her on the head with a rock 10 times. During the alleged attack, he also yelled something along the lines of:
“Get back over there, I’m so f**king sick of you!”
A previously obtained affidavit said the man grabbed her hair before “smashing her face into the ground,” adding:
“Arielle indicated that she was yelling for help and heard two other hikers; she was able to crawl over to them.”
After that, Gerhardt was said to have pulled two syringes from his bag and attempted to “use them on her, but she was able to get them away from him.” Two hikers were nearby and overheard the incident. Per one of the hiker’s recollections, she heard a woman repeatedly screaming “help me!” at around 10:30 a.m. local time. That’s when the hiker ran over and saw “a girl lying on her back in the grass with a man on top of her, hitting her on the head.” The witness claimed the man had a rock in his hand and immediately stopped and got up when he saw her arrive. The passerby alleged Arielle was screaming at the time:
“He is trying to kill me! He is hitting me in the head with a rock!”
Meanwhile, the man simply walked away as the hiker’s friend called 911.
Horrifying…
But this is where it gets even more disturbing. In Arielle’s petition for the temporary restraining order, she claimed that sometime shortly after the incident, Gerhardt called his adult son from a previous marriage. The man allegedly got on FaceTime with his son and appeared to be “covered in blood” as he uttered:
“I just tried to kill Ari but she got away.”
After this, he’s said to have told his son he was going to jump off a cliff to die by suicide. The mom of two claims to have learned this during the investigation, but the filing did not cite the source of the info.
On Friday, a judge signed an order that stated Gerhardt “must stay away from his wife and their children.” She was also granted the temporary restraining order, which bans her husband from being in their home or in contact with their kids, per Hawaii News Now. He is currently still in custody and his bail has been set at $5 million.
We truly hope Arielle can get the justice she deserves. We’re sending light and healing her way.
