It would take a lot to ward aliens off without so much as even lifting a finger… But Will Smith can do it if someone pulls his finger.
The last time we saw Will in a Men in Black movie was for the franchise’s third installment in 2012 — his and Tommy Lee Jones‘ final outing as J and K. We’re hearing now there wasn’t a dry eye on set — but they weren’t tears of sadness… They were tears triggered by a RANCID stench released by the film’s star!
On Monday’s installment of Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera, director Barry Sonnenfeld stopped by to promote his new book Best Possible Place, Worst Possible Time. There was so much to talk about, from his time working with the Coen Brothers to the legacy of his phenomenal Addams Family movies.
Butt the conversation quickly shifted to an unforgettable moment on the set of MIB 3 when Will released a fart so diabolical, it forced the crew to literally EVACUATE! Barry recalled:
“We were getting ready to shoot Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, and Tommy does not suffer fools, I’ll tell you that.”
Describing the scene they were about to shoot, he explained:
“They have to be put in this device, which is [a car] that transforms into a hyper car, and [they’re] going to go through the Midtown tunnel upside down. We have to bring a ladder over on wheels like it’s like the old days when you would get on airplanes from the tarmac. We get them up there and we put them in the thing and we turn it upside down and we’re ready to shoot.”
The director explained that the vehicle was “hermetically sealed” to prevent it from opening and causing accidents — but an accident did happen INSIDE. Barry recalled:
“I hear Will Smith go, ‘Oh, Jesus, so sorry. Tommy, so sorry. Baz, get the ladder.’ And you hear Tommy saying, ‘That’s fine, Will. No worries, Will. Don’t worry, Will.’”

He said Tommy then raced down the stairs to escape — because Will had farted inside the airtight vehicle:
“What happened was, Will Smith is a farter. It’s just some people are, and you really don’t want to be inside a very small hermetically sealed space with a Will Smith fart. You don’t even want to be sitting next to him at the Disney ranch.”
OMFG… And things just got worse! Barry explained:
“We evacuated the stage for about three hours, and that’s incredible. He’s a lovely guy, just he farts. Some do, some don’t.”
That’s INSANE. What were they feeding this dude?? Probably something really healthy! LOLz! Poor Tommy… Poor EVERYBODY there!
