Oh no! This is so sad!
The world’s tallest dog, according to the 2013 version of the Guinness World Records, has passed away on September 3rd — and it appears the world lost not only a giant dog, but a gentle giant dog!
The dog was a Great Dane named Zeus, who was 44 inches tall and was about 7-foot-4 when he stood on his hind legs. He was five-years-old and was VERY close to his sixth birthday.
The dog’s owner Kevin Doorlag, who is from Otsego, Michigan, recently talked about the dog whom he got when he was just a pup, and said:
“We got him from this couple that had had a litter ├óΓé¼┬ª and we went and looked at him and fell in love with him.”
Not only were they in love with him, but many people fell for the world’s tallest dog, especially since Zeus was a certified therapy dog. He said:
“He’d sit on people’s laps. I loved to see people’s reactions when he’d sit down. He just seemed to want to make people smile and happy and ├óΓé¼┬ª he was just a very sweet dog…I was surprised at how many people just, like, reached out to him and how many people’s, I think, lives he’s touched when we’re doing pet therapy. It was just very overwhelming and I loved that about him.”
Doorlag’s wife Denise said the most common observation from people on the street when she went out to walk Zeus was some pretty hilarious remarks! She said:
“The most common thing people ask is: ‘Is that a dog or a horse?’ and ‘Where’s his saddle?'”
Lolz! Aww!
Well, we’re so sad to hear of Zeus’s passing, but he left behind a legacy that is totally amazing, and we hope he’s resting well up there in doggy heaven!
RIP Zeus.
