The Rich Are Poor!

The shiteous economy is hitting everyone - hard.

This may be hard to believe, but….

Some 21% of those with salaries of $100,000 or more say they are living paycheck to paycheck, according to a new survey.

Tough to pity people making that much money, though.

Be wiser with your finances, y'all.

  8. 8

Thank you, George W. Bush and all of you selfish Republicans…. we need CHANGE prevent this country from 8 more years of disaster…. OBAMA '08!

  9. 9

Perez, don't try to play that old "Howard Stern" game of pretending to be just some poor schlub who couldn't get women. All the while he was rich and dating a model. You make more than $100,000. you made that deal to scope out new talant. Nothing wrong with it, make all you can. but don't try to pretend you are pulling down Grocery clerk money. ;)

  10. 10

Getting $100,000 a year and living paycheck to paycheck. Wow. They must have huge credit card bills, or bought extravagant cars & houses.

  14. 14

    ORE MONEY…MORE PROBLEM!

  15. 15

    I *heart* my sugar daddy.

  18. 18

    Thanks GW!

  19. 19

Yes, try living below your means. Gives a new meaning to living paycheck to paycheck with a mortgage of 2500.00 dollars a month. Meanwhile, people living in cockroach infected studio apartments are 'living' paycheck to paycheck. Who to pity? I don't know. It's a 'hard' decision.

  20. 20

    it's
    so bad

you have to be uber rich to not be affected. UBER rich.

  21. 21

Our country is so jacked up . . .

  22. 22

That really isnt that much money when you apply it to someone with 3 kids a mortgage and possibly a car payment.

  23. 23

it's credit card companies, car loans, house payments, ya'll!

  24. 24

You know it's sad to say but that much money doesn't go to far these days, we live in a modest home don't vacation don't eat out and we are struggling to get by day to day on more then that. Times are tough for everyone.

  25. 25

give me a break Mario, you gots to be pulling down way more than $100K. Your ugly mug is everywhere. You should just buy a cute bf with your money, don't be ashamed

  26. 26

Since I started working for Perez Stiring the Shit my income has tripled!

  27. 27

    Re: Andy27

lol I meant to ask you, are you a house boy? lol

  28. 28

$100k per year is not a lot of money in many areas. The cost of living and supporting a family makes $100k look like pennies. In my area you need to make about $150k per year, at least.

  29. imk says – reply to this

    29

I believe it. We are not rich by no means but my husband made 80k last year and we lived like peons. We don't have any car payments and maybe 3k in credit card debt but it was still hard to get by. Most of that money came from a severance check (use that to purchase car cash) when my husbands job went overseas.

If you own a home it's even harder to get by. Repairs and raising home taxes. I don't overspend on shit. I shop at the second hand. I think we just got tax'd up the ass!

  30. 30

    Re: Andy27

hehe I was…..and grrrl my ass was jet setting all over Fl (my license still says Winter Haven), DC, Hollywood, Palm Springs, Seattle, lol but needless to say it didnt work out….go figure!

    31

Please Perez.., you know ur fat azz ius pulling down waaaaaaay more than that.

kill the fake modesty. 100k does not but what it used to.

  32. 32

    Harry's a BITCH!

  33. 33

    Just because someone makes

  34. 34

100K/year ain't what it used to be.

  35. 35

Why did half the comments just vanish?

  36. 36

i only make like 80 a year by myself but i'm not living paycheck to paycheck. i've got everything paid off and i live nice but not outrageously. people follow me…not the other way around

  37. 37

Re: Andy27 – oh yeah, work the SD while you can.

  38. 38

And who's fault is it that they are living paycheck to paycheck. I'm supposed to feel sorry for people that don't know how to handle their money? This is ridiculous.

  39. 39

Tough to pity people who make that much money? How much exactly do you make, Mario? I'm betting well more than that. Must be nice!

  40. 40

Cookin dinner for my bFF tonight!!!

  42. SamY says – reply to this

    42

I'm sorry, but if you live in an area like NYC, DC, San Francisco- 100k is not that much money. Day care, food, gas, mortage, taxes…. after these types of expenses you are not left with much. A family making 250k in these areas, is NOT wealthy, Obama. Granted, you are doing better than most- but give me a break.

  43. Sammy says – reply to this

    43

I admit I am one of those people, when you have more money you spend more, I am spending $800 on electricity alone monthly, it is outrages, it happens to everyone the more you make the more you spend that is a fact!!

  44. 44

Re: SquirrelLives – It's the taxes that are screwing people over, and the cost of living. 100K in NYC for a family of 5, for example….is a very low HH income.

  45. midi says – reply to this

    45

it doesn't matter how much money you make, most can't manage–it's all about overspending and sucking your credit dry–i know first hand the perils of spending more than i make…

  46. jdub says – reply to this

    46

People are living beyond their means. It's pretty simple. Think about it. There's SO much more crap to buy than there was 10, 20, 30 years ago. We want more, we buy more…then it comes back and bites us in the ass!

  47. Moec says – reply to this

    47

That's not that much money anymore. Living off that income with a family is nothing. Especially in Cal. or Mass.

That's one end of being middle class and you get stuck with taxes to pay. The rich invest their money which saves them from high taxes and poor pay low taxes so we pay more taxes.

Go OBAMA- Mcain only cares for the rich, the rest of you are peasants to him, but he still needs your vote in order to care for the rich, who make more than 5,000,000/yr

  48. 48

My family is one of those not due to poor financal management but because of medical bills. You really shouldn't judge people with higher incomes anymore then you should judge those on foodstamps without knowing their paticular situation.

  49. 49

With five people driving (insurance costs and our cars are 2 fords, a honda, an old acura, and a volvo…the newest one is a 2001), two people in college (public schools in the midwest) , and dealing with medical bills from cancer (including the disability pay cut). That's how that happens.

  50. 50

awww….poor rich people. Maybe they need to make a lifestyle change. I mean ppl who make only 30K a yr seem to make it by. I'm pretty sure they can too.

  51. 51

    wow…someone's got a friend. amazing….

  52. 52

This is not just in the United States because unfortunately it's exactly the same case with the higher earners in the UK, because people just won't give up their high life living and be a lot more careful with their cash. The credit crunch has affected everyone and struck down the middle classes in a harsh way, because despite being high earners, they still have piles of debts to pay back from ages ago before all this economic crisis happened. With the housing market having taken a huge slump and food and fuel prices hitting an all-time high, everyone is struggling.

  53. 53

100,000 does sound like a lot of money. No Doubt. However, when you make that much you are also getting heavily taxed so you are not taking home that much. My husband makes more than 100,000 and we struggle month to month thanks to a ridiculous mortgage payment (thanks to the B.S. Los Angeles housing market bubble) on a 70 year old 3 bedroom house. We have three kids and 1 car payment on a 4 year old used car. Between food, gas, insurance, credit card payments, school loans, utilities, etc. we are tapped out. We are not out spending lavishly on anything. I finished my master's degree in April and have been looking for a job for the last two months so that I can give my husband a break but with the job market the way it is things aren't looking so hot.

  54. 54

i think, they just don't know how to budget. they just go out & buy, buy, buy & then they end up broke!

  55. 55

100K isn't that much, taxes kill.

  56. 56

he nust still feel he looks like that……too bad for him he doesn't cuz then maybe he would win

  57. 57

um…actually for my family $100K really doesn't go very far. We have 1 modest car payment, a modest mortgage and we by no means live extravagantly. My grocery bill for my family of 5 is over $1K a month. The cost of living has sky rocketed in a short period of time. It is scary.

  58. 58

Re: jade_iris – I do make 30K a year and I'm barely getting by. Also, I'm young, not a homeowner, do not own a car, do not have children to care for. What does that say for people who do?

  59. 59

    Boo-fucking-hoo.

  60. 60

not to sound like an asshole but 100k doesn't get you very far in some areas. I recently lived in Portland OR. with my boyfriend making 100k and me going to school full time. Since we're not married and he has nothing to claim (such as a house, etc.) they tax him up the ass. Taking about 35%, which on top of car loans (and I don't drive a beamer, I drive a '98 VW Beetle) and 1200/mo for rent, plus living expenses…we weren't living completely "paycheck to paycheck" but we weren't saving a penny either. And we are both NOT big spenders. So it really does have everything to do with your location, your situation, and how much your state wants to rape you of your hard-earned dollars. And my boyfriend went to school for 7 years to earn his degree so it's not fair to blame people for how much money they make, if they work their asses off for it.

20 years ago, I would have felt sorry for them…but, I just don't, now. It's amazing how frugal people are, when it comes to their employers money…but, become absolutely stupid when it comes to their own, personal, finances.

  65. 65

The more money you make, the more money you spend. That's why some of the people earning a lot of money does not have a much better economy than poor ones.

  66. 66

YOU'RE ALL MORONS. MAYBE IN OTHERS STATES 100 GRAND IS A LOT. BUT IN NEW YORK & CALIFORNIA, NOT SO MUCH.

  67. DaLa says – reply to this

    67

Depends on where you live. A family of 3 or 4 in Manhattan or L.A. could barely afford a middle class lifestyle for 100K a year. Some of us pay SUPER high taxes, y'all.

  68. 68

OH & I LOVE HOW PEREZ HERE COMMENTS ON 'THE RICH' I'M SURE HE MAKES 6 FIGURES HIMSELF YEARLY, SO SHUT THE FUCK UP. YOU'RE PART OF THE WELL OFF, MORON.

  69. 69

I can tell you from Experience this is an absolute FACT my boyfriend makes over 100,000 a year, taxes take away about half his paycheck..if Obama raises his taxes we'll be screwed..he lives paycheck to paycheck and has to work a second job now. Even with Rent control in LA rent still increases a few hundred dollars a year. He's also a government employee, it sucks!
    -
The Economy sucks and anyone paying their own bills should NOT want a big hike in taxes that Obama would like to give us! VOTE MCCAIN

  70. 70

I make a $100k and it really is not a lot of money now. I live in a modest 3 br home and have a $450/ month car paymet which is a little high but not ridiculous. I only have one kid who is in pre-school. I don't spend a lot of money on frivolous items and I still find it extremely hard to save money. Gas, groceries, mortgage payments, etc are really expensive. I am not saying "oh poor me" by any means, but to have the average american life from the 1950's you have to make at least that.

  71. 71

    Re: miranda_panda_13

You couldn't be more wrong bills add up..do you even support yourself or is Mommy and Daddy paying your bills?

  72. 72

Re: rhiannonfm – Good. get a job and you'll be FINE.
And a bus never killed nobody either. Jus' sayin'.

  73. 73

McCain will further drive the economy into the ground, making $100K a year worth even less.

Between my partner and me, we make over $220K a year, and we are certainly NOT rich. And we are voting for OBAMA.

  74. 74

    Re: DaLa
EXACTLY, OUR PROPERTY TAX A MONTH IN CALIFORNIA (FOR ME) IS $500. THAT'S MORE THAN MOST PAY FOR A CAR A MONTH. AND I OWN A MODEST HOME. SO, MY SALARY OF $150,000. DOESN'T GET ME FAR IN CALIFORNIA, SURE I LIVE A DECENT LIFESTYLE, BUT YES, I'VE CUT BACK SPENDING IN THIS ECONOMY TOO. $6000 A YEAR I PAY IN PROPERTY TAX ALONE. MY MORTGAGE IS 3000 A MONTH, AGAIN, MODEST HOUSE, 1500 SQ FT. SO….

  75. 75

    Re: PUGMOMMY
OH & ON TOP OF THE TAXES I PAID LAST YEAR, THE GOV'T DIDN'T FEEL THAT WAS ENOUGH, I OWED THE FED'S $7,800 MORE, I'M ALSO PAYING THAT OFF, @ 500 A MONTH. I TAKE ZERO DEDUCTIONS. SO PLEASE PEREZ, SHUT YOUR RICH MOUTH ABOUT THE POOR "RICH" PEOPLE. BLAH.

  76. 76

    Re: jonesey12
Enjoy Your Tax Increase that OBAMA plans on giving you! Do Your research people he wants to double taxes, I can't even imagine the nightmare that would be.
    -
It's basic economics, gas is increasing, rent goes up, food prices are increasing, but Americans wages are staying the same.

  77. 77

My experience has been to living in an area where you get the good salaries — also means really, really pricey real estate/rentals.

  78. 78

God Bless everyone and everybody affected from and by the September 11, 2001 devestation… Be Strong with Faith! Viva to the United States of America… We still Rock and are straight up Bad Azz's! Love it, Live it or Leave it…

  79. 79

100k is not that much. It's about 75k after all the taxes. if you live in a big city (nyc) you're rent is going to be really high. so most of the paycheck is going to the rent… or a mortgage if you can afford to make a 60k down payment on a small 1 bedroom apt with no backyard. then count in the cost of takeout/food and eating out. since work is going to make sure you work really long hours (since they are paying you 100k or over). if you have a stay at home spouse or a nanny (+ 35-45k a year since you and your spouse work) and a maid to clean your small apt since you're never there and work long hours. when get a break, the last thing you want to deal with is cleaning your apt ($75 + tip) so that leaves with little or no cash.

  80. 80

Re: arrora – Hey DUMBASS! get you're facts right. If you're bf makes less then 200 grand a yr then you should be fuckin' fine! Obama's plan promises cuts for middle-income taxpayers and would increase rates only for persons with family incomes above $250,000 or with individual incomes above $200,000. So vote OBAMA-BIDEN '08!

  81. 81

they have a saying in nyc. if you make under a million you are poor. if you make a millio or over you are only middle class. there's a high cost for staying in the big city and chasing the dough.

For all you people saying living off 100k isn't easy, fuck off. You don't know what struggling is and I'm sick of hearing rich greedy ass people using the word "struggle" as a way to describe them having to not be able to go on lavish vacations and drink starbucks 5 times a day. Try living on a 30k salary, have one car, a kid and then hear that your husband was just laid off…THEN start talking about struggling… I fuckin hate rich people which means I fuckin hate McCain

  83. 83

Re: hollyholly8 – Hhhmmm…well actually the Clinton Administration messed everything up wayyyy before President Bush was elected, putting AMERICA in the situation it is in today. Study the facts. BTW-Everything that Mr. Barack Hussein Obama is insinuating either won't happen, or will put our nation further into destruction. Democrats are the one's who are selfish…taking money away from the HARD working citizins of this country who deserve EVERY penny that they pour their sweat into.
    NO OBAMA '08!!!!!!!!!

Re: xoMarinaxo – You make me laugh silly trick.

  88. 88

Perez I don't even want to know how much you make. A site that with this much traffic and advertising is probably earning AT LEAST 100k a month. So it's kind of annoying when you talk about the harsh economy and hard times when you're doing just fine.

  89. 89

Re: Blink89 – He didnt say he wasn't banking, dumb-dumb. He's just telling us the latest and oh so devestating news.

  90. 90

"OH, BUT IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF KIDS, THAT'S NOT SO MUCH MONEY"

That's their problem. Maybe they shouldn't have had kids then ;)

  91. 91

Re: LaPete – LOL, thats FIVE cars!! If your family is struggling, you should not have 5 cars!!!

  92. 92

It would be funny if it weren't so important.

ATTENTION idiots and rednecks who support McCain on the FALSE assumption that Obama wants to raise taxes across the board.

NEWSFLASH: Obama's tax plan will actually LOWER taxes for the vast majority of Americans, from the working poor to the solidly middle class. If you McCain supporters are really "regular joes and janes" like you claim to be, then you probably make anywhere from $30K to $150K a year, and your taxes WILL GO LOWER under Obama's plan.

Don't believe anything you hear on Fox News, you stupid idiots. Do some actual reading for a change. And by reading I mean analyzing actual policy papers and in-depth analyses, not just the typical 1-paragraph articles or 30-second soundbites full of lies that you normally get from Fox or O'Reilly or Savage or any of your angry white man talking heads.

  93. 93

Re: arrora – Do your homework dummy!!! He is cutting taxes for the middle class (families making under 250k). Why do Republicans have to lie all the time? America needs to wake up!! The rich get richer because they take other people's money… by stealing, cheating and lying. Thats why they are rich.

  94. 94

god. some people just don't get it. If you can't afford it don't live in NY or California. I you vote for Obama, he will take your money and give it to those who don't do shit and sit on their ass at home all day complaining to the government. Now how would you like that? Oh, and the economy goes through cycles you dumb asses. It will get better with time. So - moral of the story - don't vote for someone who wants to take you money away, stop bitching, live some place you can afford, and down grade! whoo! yay for learning how to budget money!

  95. 95

Re: Blink89 – In Perez defence he probably didn't earn that much before he started his blog.

  96. 96

$100k a year living on Long Island isn't shit. We've been looking at houses for $450,000 and they are dumps, it's absolutely insane. Oh and taxes are $10,000 a year. Its just not fair! Its easy to say "move out of state" but when your family and friends since childhood are here its not easy to leave.

  97. 97

Re: arrora – Honey I am a 27yr old woman who has a home, a child, and I am blessed enough to make more than 100K a yr. I paid my way through college by working as a store manager of a Sam Goody. I worked hard for where I am, and no my parents do not support me.

  98. 98

    Re: arrora
I just learned to be efficient with my money, and not live beyond my means, I pay my taxes and I give more than 10% a yr to church and charitable causes.
    :D

  99. 99

Re: jonesey12 – Sorry, but one of Obama's major plans under presidency is to incorporate a universal healthcare system. Well if that's the case, it means that taxes WILL drastically rise for the majority of our citizens. How else would our Country be able to support such a plan? Look at the tax rate in Canada, the UK, and other countries that have a UHC system. They're paying out the ass for taxes. Do the research and WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
