New York governor David Paterson said today that he plans to re-introduce legislation making same-sex marriage legal in the state.
Two years ago, then-governor Eliot Spitzer introduced similar legislation, but it stalled in the Republican-controlled Senate.
The Democrats now control the NY Senate.
Make it happen!!!!!!!!

I live in NY and it's about time. Give me a break — let the gays marry already! What's it to you? We live in the best state in the country, and we are afraid if two gay people want to commit to each other and enjoy the same legal rights and societal acceptance as hetero couples? Grow up. The two houses on either side of ours are owned by two lesbian couples, and they are great neighbors, and one couple has children who are absolutely sweet. Doesn't threaten my marriage at all (what am I, a moron?). Their happy relationships have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with my life, except that I am happy for them.

It's about time is right! I have been living in NYC for a year now, and have converstions with people weekly about how unfair the ban on gay marriage is. Like CA, NY is a big state which means lots of people. There are going to be thousands of people who are opposed to gay marriage, but also many for it. Here in the city, we want gay marriage. Outside the city, I'm not so sure. I lived in Mass. before NY and after the ban was lifted in '03, our state didn't fall into a black hole believe it or not. We're still fine.

It's not gonna happen. The Dems. only control the State Senate because 3 conservative Dems. decided not to defect to the GOP. One of them is an ordained minister who tried to force the Dem Senate leader to promise NOT to bring same-sex marriage legislation to the floor in order to get his vote. Unless the get a few moderate GOPers to defy their puppet master, and Paterson has no way of doing that since his credibility is in the toilet, it won't happen.

your partner gets into a car accident, and they are taken to a hospital. now you are not married, but you know your partner did not wish to be resucitated. their parents, or next of kin get involved and say that they want them to be resucitated. now, you not being the spouse of this person, have no legal say to what happens to them…. think about that.
you are no less of a person because you are not married. its the fact that gay couples out there, who do want to get married, support eachother, possibly raise children are denied something so basic, part of human life, simply because they are different. it is as barbarric as me telling you that you cant sit somplace because you are a different color.
