Musician Left Devastated After Malibu Fires

bw.jpg

This is so sad.

It turns out that musician/producer Butch Walker was living in the Malibu house owned by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea that burned down this past weekend, sources reveal to PerezHilton.com.

"Butch lost everything," a friend of the rock star's tells us. "He had been renting Flea's house for a while and was in the process of buying it. The house was completely burned down."

Especially devastating for Walker, who had a home studio, was losing the masters to every song he ever recorded. Computers, equipment, instruments, song lyrics, everything. Gone.

Friends of Butch's are rallying together to help get him essentials, like clothes for his baby, and are hoping that those in the position to help will.

Got an extra guitar? There's someone who could really use one!

Um, am I the only person who doesn't feel bad at all for Butch ? Not to be heartless but if you're in the process of buying a phat pad in Malibu , I think you can afford a diaper or two. It's not like he stuffed all of his money under a mattress, for godsakes.

  50. Help for Mr. Walker says – reply to this

    50

    Dear Mr. Walker,

I am so sorry for your family's loss. Thank God you and your family are not hurt and have each other. How can we help? I have a like new Graco Pack n' Play and baby clothes. I've also read here on Perez Hilton about the Richie Madden Foundation for help with baby needs. I'm sure a family of musicians like the Richie-Madden's can be of help with baby needs.

    Strength and Blessings your way.

Aw the poor guy lost his multi million dollar mansion, with all his computers, blackberrys and his huge closet to accomidate his ocean of designer clothes. Forgive me if I don't feel the least bit sorry for this sucker, especially when others have far less.

Relax, Butch has PLENTY of money.

  54. Who? says – reply to this

    54

Uh, yeah, that's sad, but he's not the only one who lost EVERYTHING. I've never even heard of this guy, but if he's famous and has famous friends, so he'll be ok. He lost instruments?? A guitar? Lyrics and masters? Who gives a shit??! There are people who lost pictures of their children and family members. Family heirlooms that can NEVER be replaced. Sorry if I refuse to shed one tear for this guy.

  55. Youre Kidding!!! says – reply to this

    55

Perez you have absolutely lost your mind and have actually convinced yourself that the very people whose shallow and narcicistic celebrity culture you have made a joke of a career exploiting are part of the downtrodden and poor side of society who make up an all too shamefully major percent of this country's populace. "Oh No!! A well-off record producer for such acts like Lindsay Lohan, the Donnas and Fallout Boy has lost his house in Malibu!!!" PLEASE AMERICA SHED A TEAR, TIGHTEN YOUR BELT AND PULL YOUR SAVINGS TOGETHER AND LEND A GUITAR TO THIS POOR RECORD PRODUCER WHO HAS ABSOLUTELY NO MONEY OR CONNECTIONS AND NO CHANCE OF EVER GETTING HIS LIFE BACK TOGETHER!!! While the victims of the recent typhoons or the Sudanese victims of genocide can all fuck off since they dont live in Malibu OR WHAT PEREZ CONSIDERS PART OF HIS WORLD. Asshole

I'm sorry, fame and money do not heal loss and certainly do not erplace feeling the kindness of others. A show of love and support is appreciated by the heart. He lost all of his masters! Where is your heart. Money cannot replace ones heart and soul poured into creativity. He lost all of his baby things! That is sentimental and painful. Sure money makes it easier to rebuild materially but not a grieving broken heart. That takes time, love, and SUPPORT!

    67

Sure he might have some money, but come on. For a musician to lose every song they have ever recorded is pure hell. This makes me especially sad because 1) he's my favorite musician of all time, and 2) I was talking to him at his concert in NJ literally about two hours before the fire started. Does anyone have any info about where to send donations/items?

everything that he wrote or recorded and copyrighted has a copy in the library of congress - as for the masters they belonged in a vault - not at home - he will get a lot of free gear donated for the pr - i am sure the guitar center would give him a guitar in exchange for photo ops -

Sad but what about the "nobodys" who lost everything in the fires before this???? And Katrina victims??? And tsunami victims??? And every other disaster victim??? Why should we care just about this guy???

    80

Thanks Perez for finding the most fucking awful pic of Butch you can! I can tell you care. Butch is the BEST!!

  81. SEISMIC CALI says – reply to this

    81

Are you serious people? Yes, it is awful for anyone to have a fire in the home… and he lost his baby things (guess what, his baby is ALIVE and he can get more baby things…). To all of a sudden do a fundraiser for a RICH guy who was "in the process" of purchasing the house is — actually quite lucky for him… HE DIDN'T CLOSE ESCROW SO HE DOESN'T HAVE TO REBUILD! Ha. The person who will have to rebuild and hold the money bag is (you guessed it) Mr. Flea. This man most likey had insurance and loads of money in the bank to qualify for the huge JUMBO loan that he was in the process of obtaining. He is safe, his family is safe and a few things burnt. Again… this is not where your donations should be going. We really are turning into a dumb America and it is very sad. It is wonderful to have empathy, but very stupid to send a super duper rich guy money. Crazy. I agree with others above… boy oh boy….

  82. me says – reply to this

    82

Well hmm.. kind of stupid buying a house in an area like that.
Personally I would have been prepared.
    Fireproof basements!!
I'm just saying.. the studio..replaceable… but if there are constant fires in your area would you not at least think to move irreplaceable shit into storage or something in a diff area? At least temporarily??
Still sad but oh well I'm not that sad, he's rich lol.

  83. Felicity says – reply to this

    83

Ok, first of all, I don't think I read it that way at all…it was a story…the dude lost all this shit and his friends are helping him out where they can and hope that others in "A POSITION TO DO SO" will also help….not let's all send this guy shit for his family….it's always that way isn't it?? Don't feel bad for the guy or the girl or whatever because they have money. That's bullshit. He's human and it sucks no matter how much money someone has and it's a shitty sad story.

  84. Nikki Ballllz says – reply to this

    84

for all the people who are saying "oh hes rich enough…" blah blah blahhh… thats bullshit. no matter how rich u are, if ur house burns down& u lose MANY precious, important things… its horrible. i feel worst about the masters, any lyrics or pictures he had, EXPENSIVE equip, etc. :( he sent me kind words when i lost my grandpa last week, so i send him all the love in the world

……OH LORD! BUTCH WALKER IS AN OK ALMOST-HIPSTER ROCKER WHOSE GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS ARE PARTYING CREDENTIALS WITH PARIS AND LINDSAY AND AVRIL AND TOMMY LEE. GIVE US A BREAK. HE HAS MORE RESOURCES THAN MOST WHO LOST 'EVERYTHING' AND HE WILL BE JUST FINE. HIS QUESTIONABLE MUSIC PORTFOLIO???? FIRE WAS THE BEST THING FOR IT, REALLY….. GIVES HIM THE CHANCE TO START ANEW, LIKE ATLANTA AFTER THE CIVIL WAR, LIKE HE TRIED AFTER SOUTHGANG…… BUTCH GONNA RISE AGAIN! GETTING EXCITED? YOU SHOULDN'T!

It suck ass that this happened to him…but im just saying if you've never listened to any of his songs listen to a few…..

    89

    I LOVE BUTCH WALKER!!!!!!!!!

    this is soooooooooooo sad.

  90. djlkahkjad says – reply to this

    90

First of all, Butch didn't only lose music equipment and baby clothes. He'd just finished moving everything he owned from his ATL house and studio to his Malibu home. Butch has worked extremely hard for his success and (relatively) little noticed contributions to the music world. So although he probably doesn't need as much help as other disaster victims around the world that doesn't mean the loss wasn't devastating. So have some compassion for christ's sake. He's a genuinely good guy who didn't deserve something like this.

In a press statement Butch said:
"I had just consolidated my entire recording studio and house from Atlanta into the one house In Malibu. I lost everything I've ever owned. Every master of every song I've ever recorded, every piece of recording equipment, guitars, drums and things I've collected over the years, cars, motorcycles, every family memorial, heirloom, picture, and document we ever had…. Gone. I feel like I finally know the difference between 'going back' and 'going home'."

butch walker is not only a extremely talented musician but he is also a PERSON. if anyone has ever suffered a devastating loss such as their HOUSE BURNING DOWN then nobody should be complaining whether he is a celebrity or rich or not. He lost everything he owns and the only the support and love from his fans will help him stay positive as he picks up the pieces of his life and starts over.

  94. Barb says – reply to this

    94

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I could use some DIAPERS. These celebs ….. geeesh.. Rich keep getting richer. Sure I feel sorry about his stuff… who wouldn't. But jesus christ his bank account certainly didn't burn down. BUY your own freaking guitar and while your at it… get me a case of diapers and groceries that I could use instead of working paycheck to paycheck. The only freaking luxury item i get is the computer and the internet. I know.. WAWAWA but really folks. Get real

WHAT I HATE IS WHEN PEOPLE ARE SO UNSYMPATHETIC ABOUT RICH PEOPLE LOSING THEIR HOMES AND EVERYTHING IN CATASTROPHES ("OH, SO AND SO IS SO FILTHY RICH THAT HE OR SHE CAN JUST REBUILD, NO PROBLEMO!) YET THEY DON'T REALISE THAT FIRE … DEVASTATES … EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING, REGARDLESS OF WHO YOU JUST HAPPEN TO BE AND HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAPPEN TO HAVE (OR, DON'T!)

    96

    man that's bad.
i had no idea he has a child.

im a huge fan of his.
i have been for about 5 years.
and for him to lose all his musical equipment is a huge loss.
    because that's what he does.
its how he makes his money.
and im sure he could buy new things.
but people are saying 'oh should have kept your master tracks in a safe' or 'well that's what you get for buying a house in that area' or 'what about the poor tsunami victiams'.
    a) are you a music produce.
    are you in the business.
maybe he doesn't keep his master tracks in a safe because he uses them.
or shit. he just doesn't want to.
and b) go ask all your tsunami victiams why they bought a house by the ocean.
that's their problem in their country not americas problem.

    cut the guy a break.
he's a great guy who works for his money.
he needs more appreciation for his work because its amazing.

  97. Jake says – reply to this

i record music a little.. i can't imagine losing the masters to the songs, my guitars..
i was glad to find that Flea's own house wasn't burned down, but i feel bad for this guy
    that would suck alot…

  98. akc says – reply to this

    98

not feelin' so sad for him…it's called renters insurance….costs like 100 buck a year. Why is an old guy RENTING? buy an f-ing house, dude! If you are successful you shouldn't be renting at your age. You look like you are at least 60. One more thing…if you are a successful songrwriter/singer/recording artist, why the hell don't you have your own place?

  99. tony says – reply to this

    99

Most people big into the Atlanta music scene have crossed paths with Butch Walker at least once- he's a down to earth stand up guy who has worked very hard for many years to get where he is. I'm sure he's not looking for a handout by any means, he knows he is fortunate. It doesn't make what happened any less tragic- no one deserves to lose things that hold personal signifigance. I'm really sorry to hear about this.
