And we like. It's different. It's soulful. It's what you'd expect from her.
There's a slew of amazing artists featured on the Boardwalk Empire Soundtrack, out the beginning of September. Lots of jazz and bluesy voices , including Regina Spektor, who sings a classic song made famous by Fanny Brice (and then Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl), My Man!
Have a listen to the video (above) to hear her version of the song.
You know, this is the third time we've heard a contemporary artist cover this song. All in different ways. There was Lea Michele, who performed it on Glee this past season and kept very closely to the Barbra version. Then, we found Lauren Ambrose performed a version of the song with her band, Lauren Ambrose and the Leisure Class. It's a lot more like Regina's, but we would say more brassy.
The singer/songwriter is set to collaborate with playwright/director Tina Landau and lyricist Michael Korie on a new musical entitled Beauty.
Beauty is described as using "the 1812 Grimm fairy tale Sleeping Beauty as a jumping off point for a contemporary and hauntingly provocative story of beauty lost and beauty found."
With Regina attached to the project, we're sure it's going to be amazeballs!
Beauty is being aimed at Broadway for the 2011-2012 season, after an out-of-town run.
The phenomenally talented Regina Spektor has announced that she is dropping her new album upon us, and it's coming out SOON!
The new album is called Far and it's set for a June 23rd release.
We can't wait to hear what the new album sounds like! Spektor worked with four very different producers on the project: Jeff Lynne (ELO, The Traveling Wilburys), Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Eminem), David Kahne (Paul McCartney, The Strokes) and Garret "Jacknife" Lee (Weezer, REM).
