Dames At Sea first premiered off-off-Broadway in 1966, eventually transferring off-Broadway.
The musical send-up of Busby Berkeley-style movie musicals of the '30s never played Broadway - until now. And we're not sure it should have made that leap!
This revival and director Randy Skinner makes the most of the source material, but we're not sure why it was done in the first place.
The plot is purposefully ridiculous and the book has not been updated at all, which it strongly needs.
The songs are serviceable but far from timeless or iconic.
And, with just a six person cast, Dames At Sea feels very small! Small cast. Small set. But, thankfully, playing the smallest theater on Broadway.
There is some great tap dancing in the show. AND, Lesli Margherita is sensational! She is a future sitcom superstar! Mark our words!
Overall, though, this was a pretty unremarkable show.
