On Friday, Pearl Moen (above) was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to attacking a young woman she lived a few blocks away from, then — most disturbingly — writing about the thrill of murder in her diary.
According to the Travis County district attorney's office, the 19-year-old Texas teen never posted bail and never left the Travis County Jail since she was arrested on February 28, 2015.
The victim, who survived the November 14 2014 attack in Hyde Park, told the American-Statesman that her right lung collapsed and she lost a dangerous amount of blood.
She and a friend were relaxing outside on a blanket the morning of the attack. When the friend went back to his apartment, the victim took a moment to relax and close her eyes — when Moen, then 17, allegedly attacked her with a knife, smiling as she stabbed the park goer 21 times.
The DA's office said that the Moen had "a history of drug use and psychological issues" but "no criminal record."
