Roger Ebert died yesterday, succumbing to complications from cancer, but his rich legacy lives on.

For the 15th year in a row, cinephiles and superstars alike will flock to Illinois to share their love of great movies at Ebertfest. The April 17-21 film festival won't be the same, obviously, without the presence of the legendary critic, but he will be there in spirit!

Plenty of celebz will be there, too!

The Republican national platform does not include support for same-sex marriage, so it takes a lot of guts to speak up for what you believe in sometimes!

But Illinois' stroke-surviving Senator Mark Kirk wasn't about to let peer pressure get in the way!!

Kirk has officially become the second member of the GOP to endorse same-sex marriage! And with one of the best quotes we've ever heard on the matter! He said:

We're guessing some couples in Illinois are going to have to turn those candlelight dinner plans into engagement parties tonight!

Just in time for Valentine's Day, the Illinois Senate just passed a bill to legalize same-sex marriage!

The bill passed 34-21 in the Senate and now must move to the House to be made fully legal.

This will make Illinois the tenth state to make gay marriage legal, but three more states are just behind.

Rhode Island, Delaware, and Hawaii have each introduced their own marriage equality acts into their legislatures.

Looks like 13 is going to be the lucky number for someone very soon!

Illinois is in the midst of an intense battle to legalize same-sex marriage, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson isn't afraid to stand on the front lines!

The gay rights' advocate and Modern Family man visited Chicago with his fiancé Justin Mikita and helped promote the inspirational message through his non-profit foundation Tie the Knot.

In a statement, he said:

Even if it's only happening one state at a time, we're thrilled our country's lawmakers are slowly coming to their senses!

Marriage is a right any two people in love ought to be able to enjoy and, if all goes according to plan, same-sex couples in the Land of Lincoln will enjoy that right sooner rather than later!

President Barack Obama and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel are supporting local efforts to make gay marriage an economic imperative and asking Illinois state lawmakers to draft a legalization bill in just a few days!

Prez Obama, of course, cannot write Illinois legislature, but his opinion is highly regarded within the state!

A White House spokesperson said:

"While the president does not weigh in on every measure being considered by state legislatures, he believes in treating everyone fairly and equally, with dignity and respect. As he has said, his personal view is that it's wrong to prevent couples who are in loving, committed relationships, and want to marry, from doing so. Were the President still in the Illinois State Legislature, he would support this measure that would treat all Illinois couples equally."

This is ah-mazing news!! Hopefully 2013 brings forth equality for ALL couples who love each other!
