Arizona Governor Jan Brewer National Council La Raza Ends Boycott Immigration Law

The largest Latino civil rights advocacy group in the US has officially called off their Arizona boycott!

Imposed in May 2010, The National Council of La Raza began their boycott on the state after Governor Jan Brewer enacted the extremely controversial immigration law Senate Bill 1070.

The law required law enforcement to question those looking suspicious of being an illegal alien within the state of Arizona. This caused jaws to drop because it basically meant police had the right to profile.

GaGa Isn't Keen On U.S. Immigration Laws

Lady GaGa Immigration

We'll be honest: As active as GaGa is in causes, we are not shocked to hear that she does not stand for many of the immigration laws in the country, calling them "unjust."

Rather, we're glad that she's continuing to us her public venue to reach out and stand up for one of the most heated topics in this nation!

Here's what she said:

"I don't stand by many of those unjust immigration laws in my country."

A simple, yet bold statement. She has also expressed disgust with the immigration laws in Arizona, which ridiculously gives Arizona police the ability to stop anyone who is suspected of being an illegal immigrant. Anyone. Just on suspicion.

One of her new songs, Americano, was written partially in response to all these "unjust laws."

We say good for you, GaGa! We're glad you're not wasting your position to have your voice heard!

Immigrant In Same-Sex Marriage Gets Deportation Reprieve!

Absolutely wonderful news, and hopefully a taste of things to come!

On Friday, an immigration judge in Newark, NJ granted a suspension on deportation for a Venezuelan man, Henry Velandia, who is in a same-sex marriage with an American man, Josh Vandiver.

Judge Alberto J. Riefkohl postponed the deportation until at least December, in order to "allow time for the attorney general and the appeals court to work out whether a gay partner might be eligible under some circumstances for residency."

Given the fact that President Barack Obama called the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional back in February, it sounds like his administration could be getting onto the right path with regards to same-sex marriage issues.

We're very happy to hear this, and we truly hope that steps are taken to ensure that this married couple won't have to be apart come December.

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!

Angelina Jolie Speaks Out On Behalf Of Political Refugees In Africa

Angelina Jolie speaks out against violence in Africa

As part of her work as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for refugees, Angelina Jolie is speaking out against the deadly political turmoil in the African nations of Libya and the Ivory Coast, or Cote d'Ivoire.

The actress called upon the world "to address this moment" in a statement she released today through the U.N., while in Kabul, Afghanistan, saying:

"As we witness these newest crises unfold in west and north Africa, it is critical that all parties respect the fundamental right of people in danger to flee to safety—whether civilians caught in conflict in their own country or refugees and asylum seekers caught in new conflicts. All I'm asking is that civilians be protected, and not targeted or harmed."

We hope her message gets through to the world because tens of thousands of people have been displaced in the Ivory Coast with many fleeing to Liberia.

The U.N. has issued a joint appeal with the International Organization for Migration for a humanitarian evacuation for people trying to escape Libya for Tunisia.

Angelina's statement continued:

"We have to give people safe passage, evacuation if needed, and ensure they have asylum. We don't want to look back and find their deaths are on our hands."

Absolutely! We'd hate to have that on our conscience.

Keep up the good work, Angelina! Thank you for being a voice for those who can't be heard.

Chezza's Past Assault Conviction Could Affect Her Work Visa In The USA!

cheryl-cole-may-have-complications-coming-to-usa-due-to-past-assault-conviction

Oh, no! But it was so long ago!

Cheryl Cole has reportedly accepted a position on the judging panel for the U.S. version of X Factor, but she may have trouble smoothly transitioning stateside due to an assault occasioning actual bodily harm conviction she has against her from back in 2003!

The arrest in question happened when Chezza was 19 and beginning her career with Girls Aloud. She was at a club in Surrey, and punched Sophie Amogbokpa when the bathroom attendant tried to stop the singer from taking a lollipop. She was then sentenced to 120 unpaid hours of community service!

Ridiculous, right?

However, U.S. law forces all visa applicants to disclose any convictions that they might have on their application forms, and in more serious cases, they must be appealed by authorities!

Visa and Immigration Lawyer Susan McFadden explains:

‘If the conviction is for something that triggers ineligibility the person would have to appeal for a waive.'

We seriously doubt that something as minor as a bathroom fight in a nightclub from over seven years ago will affect her work visa, but you never know!

Poor Chezza needs a break after the year that she's had, so we've got our fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly for her!

Hang in there, bb!

Randy Quaid Says He And His Wife Are Not "Crazy"

randy-evi-quaid-not-crazy.jpg

Whatever you say!

Despite making claims that they're being targeted by "Hollywood Star Whackers" and escaping to Canada, Randy Quaid swears that he and his wife Evi are not "crazy."

After his immigration hearing on Thursday, Randy told reporters:

"Up until a year ago, Evi and I had never had any run-in with the law whatsoever. We are not criminals, nor are we fugitives from justice, nor are we crazy. We are simply artists and film-makers being racketeered on."

Oh sure. That'll make us believe ya.
