Juicing fruits and vegetables is a fantastic, simple and delicious way to get daily required amount of fruits and vegetables. Don’t have a juicer, then try blending. Toss in anything you’d like including vegetables you don’t normally eat. There are endless combinations, so try blending carrots, kale or spinach, an apple and ice. You will get a ton of vitamins and minerals that you wouldn’t get by attempting to eat them raw.

Julianne Moore wanted to look her best for the Golden Globe Awards, so she got herself a special designer dress.
She was nominated for an award for her role in the TV movie Game Change after all!
Then came a moment of panic… after holiday feasting she realized she might not be able to fit into that dress!!
That must've been terrifying! So she did all she could do: she went on a panic crash diet.

Nutritionist Margaux J. Rathbun is back to answer your questions!
This time, she's clearing things up about juicing.
Question: Hi Margaux! I have a fancy juicer that separates the liquid juice from the pulp, but some sources say that isn't good because the pulp is what holds a lot of the nutritional good stuff. Should I forget the juicer and just use a blender? Thanks in advance and great job on the site!
Answer: Thanks for your question! It's always healthiest to eat your fruits and veggies in their entirety (and in raw, organic form), but making homemade juice is a great way to create a healthy and nutritious beverage that the whole family can enjoy. Homemade juice is also a much better alternative to the pre-bottled juices sold in stores, many of which are full of sugar and other additives. Regarding your juicer separating the pulp from the liquid juice; that is pretty normal for a juicer machine. Chances are that you are still getting the majority of nutrients from the juice but do note that pulp is a good source of fiber and other vitamins and minerals. Some people absolutely hate the pulp in their juice but still like to include it in their diet for the health benefits. Here are some other things that you can do with all of that leftover pulp:
- Include it as a tasty thickening agent for soups and stews
- Use the pulp from carrots, garlic, and tomatoes in your pasta sauce
- Pulp from berries, kiwi, mangoes, and peaches can be used as toppings on different dishes (especially good on natural, vanilla ice cream if you want to splurge on a dessert)
- Mix veggie pulp with olive oil and vinegar for a creative salad dressing
- Mix the pulp with Greek yogurt and your favorite spices for a delicious party dip
