Awww.

Prince William and his new wifey Catherine have adopted an endangered baby penguin called Acorn, a British zoo revealed on Friday.

But Acorn will not be not be moving in with the royal newlyweds any time soon, Chester Zoo.

He will instead remain at the zoo in north-west England with 49 other Humbolt penguins.

"Hopefully the happy couple will come and see little Acorn playing in his pool very soon,"

Said a spokesman for the zoo, which gave the penguin to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as a wedding present.

"It's a real honour to be able to boast Prince William and Kate as penguin adopters."

The zoo had asked followers on social networking sites to choose which of its 400 different species the couple should sponsor.

The Humbolt penguins, which are thought to be declining in number due to overfishing of their food and habitat loss, received more than 20 percent of the votes.

Ellen DeGeneres' pet food donates 5 million meals to charity

Ellen DeGeneres' pet food company Halo, Purely for Pets®, is celebrating officially reaching their incredible goal of donating 5 million meals to pets in shelters!

This fantastic news comes just 3 months after the television personality's pet food company became the sole provider to support Freekibble.com and reached their initial goal of 1 million meals donated to animal shelters across the nation.

Awesome job, guys!

This charitable milestone coincides with Halo's joint effort along with PETCO to sponsor the National Adoption Weekend at PETCO locations nationwide April 9 and 10.

Last year, the event found homes for nearly 4,000 pets and this year, the organizers hope to surpass that number.

Ellen DeGeneres is reaching out to her fans and possible pet parents around the country, saying:

“Think adoption first – that’s what PETCO is always trying to encourage people to do because there are thousands of really cute, sweet homeless pets that really need our help.”

Anyone who attends the event at their local PETCO will receive $2 off any bag of Halo Spot's Stew dog or cat food AND for every coupon used during April, one meal will be donated to a shelter!

Even better, one lucky winner will be selected to donate 10,000 meals to the shelter of his or her choice.

So what are you waiting for? Click here to get your coupon and get a bag of Halo pet food this weekend at PETCO!

PETA Campaigns Against Exotic Skin On Skins

Advertisers have been dropping like birds out of the sky on New Years Eve in Arkansas from the controversial MTV show Skins, but PETA is offering to step in.

Despite rumors of cancellation due to declining ratings, MTV says it will air all ten episodes of the show with a little help from PETA.

The non-profit organization has offered up a 30-second spot featuring Pink and Ricky Gervais giving voice to a computer-generated alligator and rabbit who make the case that “exotic skins and fur belong on their original owners.”

PETA said in a statement:

“In light of the uproar surrounding the explicit content of MTV's new teen drama, Skins, and the show's resultant loss of sponsors, PETA is offering the network a chance to get some positive media attention as well as save animals' skins."

Not a bad marketing plan at all.

Hopefully advertising with younger viewers may inspire an entire new generation of animal activists!

It's National Walk Your Dog Week!

What a great idea! And for such a wonderful cause, too!

This week in October has been officially declared National Walk Your Dog Week, to help fight canine behavior issues and canine obesity in the USA!

The holiday is sponsored by Animal Miracle Network, and the founder, Pet Lifestyle Expert Colleen Paige explains:

"With more and more people becoming sedentary and gaining weight due to a lack of exercise, dogs don't get the necessary outlet they need to stay physically and mentally healthy. I feel that part of the overpopulation of dogs in this country is hugely associated with our growing waistlines. Generally, the less a person exercises, the less a dog exercises. Having trained thousands of dogs in the last twenty years, it's my estimation that at least 75% of dogs in shelters are there due to a lack of exercise, which has thus resulted in serious behavior issues such as aggression, destruction and separation anxiety issues. Often, dogs run away from home because they're kept sequestered all day long in a crate or a small yard, which only exacerbates a dog's destructive, aggressive or anxious tendencies. This, coupled with too much fatty food, leads to obesity, as well as medical issues like pancreatitis, diabetes, heart disease and the number one killer of dogs – cancer. October is a beautiful time of year everywhere to get outside. Walking your dog on a daily basis not only increases the endorphins in both human and canine brains but it improves the bond between the two. If you walk your dog just 30 minutes a day, you will meet national recommendations for heart health. Asking your children to accompany you by walking the dog themselves while you supervise, will set them up for a better chance that they will continue to not only crave physical exercise, but that they will be responsible dog stewards when they're adults."

Amazing! You would never think that simply keeping your animal active would help alleviate so many behavioral problems!

Get out there and walk your furry dog friends, folks!
