blood sample

Don't use this as an excuse to avoid using condoms, but scientists have found 1% of the population is naturally resistant to HIV and other deadly diseases like malaria, leprosy and hepatitis.

How's that for a genetic mutation? Professor X would be so proud! Ha!

The discovery came after researchers studying anthrax susceptibility found it is actually an inherited genetic trait.

Luck Will Stay With Stanford For Another Year

Andrew Luck will play for Stanford another year

Looks like Stanford's football team may be in luck for another season.

Even though Stanford University quarterback and Heisman Trophy runner-up, Andrew Luck, was projected by many to be the first quarterback taken in this years NFL draft, he has decided to continue playing with the Cardinal for at least another season while he finishes his degree.

While many may be baffled by his decision to wait another year to earn millions, we think he's doing something pretty smart.

Luck said in a Stanford news release:

"I am committed to earning my degree in architectural design from Stanford University and am on track to accomplish this at the completion of the spring quarter of 2012."

Luck seems to be putting his eduction first, which is a good decision, considering one unlucky injury could ruin his career.

ESPN reported that the Carolina Panthers said they would take the quarterback with their first pick.

NFL rules require that underclassmen declare early whether they intend to enter the draft. January 15 is their deadline.

Stanford Ends UConn's Record Winning Streak

Wow! Now this is a BIG win!

The University of Connecticut is feeling rather low this morning as their women's basketball team's epic winning streak was finally broken by the team from Stanford.

Stanford beat the Huskies last night, 71-59, bringing their 90 game winning streak to an end. That's the longest winning streak in NCAA Division I basketball history!

But what's most important is good sportsmanship, which the UConn team definitely showed, even with a loss. The team's coach, Geno Auriemma, spoke to the press after the game and said:

"You’ve got to have good players, you’ve got to get lucky, and all your best players have to play great every night, and we didn’t get that tonight. And … the other team has to have something to do with it. … They made us play bad, and they played well, so they deserve to win."

Well said!

And you know what? Both teams are winners to us! You don't win 90 games in a row without being a force to be reckoned with! Everyone should be very proud of themselves!
