Police shot and killed a suspect on Wednesday after the assailant stabbed five people on campus at on the University of California, Merced.
According to reports, the stabbings occurred before 8 a.m. in the campus' Classroom and Office Building and left five people injured.
Three of the victims were treated on campus, while the other two were taken by helicopter for treatment — all of the injured students were reportedly conscious.
The rural school, which is about 120 miles south of Sacramento, California, is still on lockdown and classes have been cancelled for the day.
Student Alex Lopez said he was heading to class, when he realized something was wrong. He explained:
"I was listening to a podcast, and there was a break in talking, and I just hear a gunshot. You see this stuff all over the news and stuff and you see it happen to all these other schools, but you don't expect it to happen at your school."
So devastating. Thankfully, police were able to put a stop to the attack before anyone else got hurt — or worse.
