2019 Golden Globe Nominees: Snubs & Surprises!

golden globes snubs

Audiences are treated to more and more content each year, yet the amount of award show categories to honor said content continues to stay the same.
Maybe that’s why it felt like there were more snubs than usual in the 2019 Golden Globes nominees?
Sure, there were plenty of pleasant surprises… Sacha Baron Cohen pranked his way into the Best Actor category for Who Is America?; The Good Place was recognized for Best Comedy Series — its star, Kristen Bell, also landed a good Best Actress nod; Alison Brie finally scored a Best Actress nod for GLOW; and Candice Bergen (!) was nominated for the Murphy Brown reboot.

But for every surprise, there were several disappointments. Here are some of the biggest snubs fans are reeling over:

Ted Danson

Although NBC’s philosophical sitcom about the afterlife finally landed a nomination, the beloved architect of the titular Good Place didn’t make the cut. Danson was considered the most likely nomination out of the bunch, but apparently the HFPA didn’t think he was good enough.

Robin Wright

It was Claire Underwood’s time to shine in the final, Kevin Spacey-less season of House of Cards. Unfortunately, she didn’t plot hard enough to get herself on the nominations list.

The Handmaid’s Tale

This dystopian Hulu series won Best Drama at the Globes last year, so it’s a surprise to see Season 2 not make the category at all. At least Elizabeth Moss and Yvonne Strahovski landed Best Lead and Best Supporting Actress nods.

A Quiet Place

John Krasinski’s critically acclaimed, mostly-silent horror film managed to pick up an ironic nomination for Best Original Score, but Krasinski was snubbed from the director’s category and Emily Blunt was unrecognized for Best Actress. She did earn a nod for Mary Poppins Returns, though.

Sterling K. Brown

The This Is Us favorite won last year for Best Actor, so fans teared up a little when he didn’t make the cut this year. Blame it on Jason Bateman.

Mandy Moore

Another This Is Us snub for the woman who flawlessly plays a million ages. The Best Actress in a Drama category was a tough one to crack this year, though, with major competition from nominees including Sandra Oh, Keri Russell, and Julia Roberts.

Westworld

The second season of the HBO sci-fi drama won big at the Emmys a few months ago, but only managed to land a Best Supporting nod for Thandie Newton. Sorry, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, and Evan Rachel Wood!

Atlanta

While Donald Glover was nominated in the Best Actor category, the groundbreaking FX comedy’s second season was shut out of the Comedy Series category, despite being an Emmys darling. We guess HFPA didn’t like that Season 2 was inspired by Tiny Toons?

The Haunting Of Hill House

The Haunting of Hill House Golden Globes
Between the emotional powerhouse dramatic acting of this scarier version of This Is Us and the technical wizardry involved in those long, uncut takes, this freshman Netflix effort should have gotten something! But award shows historically haven’t take horror seriously, and it still shows sometimes.
What do U think the biggest snubs and surprises were?
