Godzilla-Like Lizard Gives California Residents A Scare

Black-throated monitor lizard
Holy shiz! That’s one big scary lizard!
A California neighborhood had the same reaction when one of these 5-foot-long Black-throated monitor lizards was spotted wandering around a condo complex in the city of Riverside.
The city’s animal services were called when residents reported a “Godzilla-like creature walking down the sidewalk.”
Even with the exagerated description, it was still bigger than animal control officer Jenny Selter expected. A spokesman for Riverside County Animal Services shared, “She said she saw it and almost jumped back in her truck.”
We would too!
Selter, however, was able to use a catch pole, normally used for viscous dogs, to loop the animals neck and picked it up into her truck with police assistance.
The black-throated monitor lizard is a carniverous creature, but is completely legal in California to own. The animal behaved surprisingly well at the shelter leading officials to believe it is probably somebody’s pet that got loose and are hoping they claim it soon.
That’s one heck of a pet!
