Uh-oh!
50 Cent has been slapped with a lawsuit by Robert Poindexter of The Persuaders, because he claims the rapper sampled a snippet of his band’s song, Love Gonna Pack Up And Walk Out, without permission, for the song Redrum, and then released it on-line for free!
However, Fiddy is under the impression that because he didn’t charge for the track, he does not have to abide by copyright laws!
The suit reads:
“Fifty Cents [sic] has not denied the infringement, but appears to be basing his defense solely on a frivolous and immaterial claim that the illegal version is not being commercially exploited, but is given away for free.”
He’s seeking an unknown amount of statutory damages and $600,000 in punitive, plus interest!
Yeesh!
That’s a lot of dough for one free song!
It will be inneresting to hear if the case holds up in the courtroom!
