NBC’s Today show has changed its rules for their annual wedding contest and now same-sex couples are allowed to apply for the Modern Wedding Contest to get married on-air!
Jarrett Barrios of the not always useless GLAAD says:
“We’re thrilled that `Today’ show’s `Modern Wedding Contest’ now recognizes what most fair-minded Americans have already concluded ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ a wedding celebrates love and commitment, whether the spouses are straight or gay.”
For the contest, viewers choose all of the wedding details as well as which couple will participate out of the 4 couples NBC chooses as finalists.
GLAAD pointed out to the network that same-sex couples could still have their ceremony in New York with the Today show, but get their marriage license from another state. NBC says in a statement:
“Moving forward, we ensure that our future wedding contests will be inclusive to all couples.”
