Donald Trump Loses Again -- Supreme Court Won't Reconsider His Liability In Sex Abuse Case Involving E. Jean Carroll

Well, Donald Trump just got another big legal door slammed in his face.

The Supreme Court has refused to reconsider the verdict finding that the president is financially liable for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s — meaning this particular part of the legal battle is officially over.

The nation’s highest court denied Trump’s request for a rehearing on Monday, according to the court’s order list as reported by People and others. There was no explanation for the decision, and no justices were noted as dissenting. Rehearings are extremely rare, tho, making this another major setback for Trump.

Carroll, now 82, first publicly accused Trump in her 2019 memoir of sexually assaulting her at New York City’s Bergdorf Goodman department store decades ago. Trump has repeatedly denied the allegations, including famously claiming Carroll was “not my type” and insisting he had never met her, despite photographs showing the two together.

The legal drama continued for years. Carroll sued Trump for defamation later in 2019, and after that brought another lawsuit under New York’s Adult Survivors Act. In a 2023 civil trial, a jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll — though not for rape — and also found him liable for defamation.

Trump appealed the verdict, but the Supreme Court declined to hear his case in June. Then, after Trump finally paid Carroll the $5.6 million in damages in July, he made one more attempt to get the justices to reconsider. Nope!

Carroll’s attorney Roberta Kaplan told People in a statement:

“[We are] pleased that the United States Supreme Court has declined again to hear this case. As a result, the jury’s unanimous verdict that Donald Trump sexually assaulted and then defamed E. Jean Carroll is now final and cannot be challenged in any court.”

However, as we’ve previously reported, there is still more here: Trump is still fighting the whopping $83 million judgment stemming from the Carroll defamation case.

So, while this particular chapter would appear to be closed, the Trump-Carroll courtroom saga is definitely not fully finished yet.
