Florence Pugh used her platform on Sunday to take a stand for the Jane Doe in the now-viral lawsuit against Cornell University.
The lawsuit alleges that, in October 2024, multiple fraternity members raped a woman in their frat house while she was drugged. As news of the lawsuit and its horrific details circulated online, many took their thoughts to social media — including the East of Eden star.
In her Instagram post, Florence urges men to step up and speak out about the case:
“This is really the moment where we need our men to be as horrified and as sickened as us. You need to be leading conversations about how we change the allowance and complicity of this behaviour as much as we are. How can you expect us to trust that it’s “not all men” when in moments like this, many of you stay quiet?”
She continues her thoughts:
“Was the damage of this poor woman’s body thought about over and over before? Every single person who knew or heard about this happening, should be looked at with serious concern. They are as evil as those planning it. To know that a torture as violent as rape is about to happen ‘upstairs’ and not do ANYTHING ABOUT IT, is sick, cowardly and cold.”
Florence makes clear the immense, lasting damage that comes with rape:
“This is a killing of a soul. Destroying of a body and killing of a soul.”

Amid growing public concern surrounding the lawsuit and its allegations, prosecutors say they are now reopening the case and will present it to a grand jury. You can read more about the case here.
