You can’t please everyone!
Things got rather heated last night at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards. The rumble was started by The Sharks The Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky when he confronted chairman Armond White about the harsh review he gave his movie.
Armond accused the flick of being in “ethnic denial” and ranked the mostly-praised flick lower than Kanye West’s video for Runaway! (Bet ‘Ye is sending him a muffin basket right about now.)
Because of his negative review, Darren took a shot at the writer while presenting an honor to his cinematographer. He went at Armond, saying, “Keep it up, because you give us all another reason not to read New York Press.”
After his quip, he apologized for his unprofessionalism and said he was “done.” Unfortunately, Armond was not. When it was his turn at the room’s podium, he took a shot right back at Darren, telling the crowd:
“That’s all right. Darren reads me. That’s all I want. And because he reads me, he knows the truth.”
Aaand it was on!
For a moment, it looked like the prestigious New York Film Critics Circle Awards was about to morph into a MTV Movie awards after party hosted by Belvedere and crowbars. But then, a voice of reason brought the feud to a polite end. That voice belonged to Annette Bening, who reportedly called for peace as she “tearfully came close to lecturing critics for being mean.”
You let them know what’s up, Annette! Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. No need to get all nasty about it.
