Oscar Nominated Restrepo Co-Director Killed In Libya

Such a tragedy!

Less than two months after the Academy Awards ceremony, Oscar nominated Restrepo co-director Tim Hetherington has been killed in Libya while documenting fighting between Gaddafi’s forces and rebels.

Along with Tim, Getty photographer Chris Hondros is in “extremely critical condition” following a severe brain injury from a mortar attack. Just awful! We hope he recovers.

Here’s what ABC News’ James Goldston had to say about Hetherington:

“Tim was one of the bravest photographers and filmmakers I have ever met. During his shooting for the Nightline specials he very seriously broke his leg on a night march out of a very isolated forward operating base that was under attack. He had the strength and character to walk for four hours through the night on his shattered ankle without complaint and under fire, enabling that whole team to reach safety.”

Such a brave, fearless man whose work has impacted many, many lives. He will be missed.

Our thoughts go out to Tim’s family, friends, and peers during this difficult time.
