California Passes Bill Requiring Public Schools To Teach Gay History!!!!

What a wonderful step in the right direction!

Yesterday, California passed a bill which will “require California public schools to teach the historical accomplishments of gay men and lesbians.”

Cali’s democratic governor Jerry Brown has not yet announced publicly whether or not he supports the bill, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed that everything continues to go smoothly as this bill becomes a law.

Here’s what executive director of San Francisco’s Gay-Straight Alliance Network Carolyn Laub had to say about the bill:

“It’s unfair to leave out or exclude an entire portion of our population from history.”

And here’s what California Assemblyman Donald Wagner had to say about the bill, which he opposed:

“Writing these provisions into textbooks will further an agenda rather than teach facts. When we do things, we politicize them because that’s the nature of politics. We should leave education to the educators.”

We disagree! We think it’s FANTASTIC that students will be exposed to the stories of inspirational gay men and women who have made a difference over the years. We’ll be VERY excited when we get confirmation that this bill becomes a law!

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!
