Good lord, this situation just keeps more and more nauseating.
We reported yesterday on the Sequoya High School senior Chris Sigler, who was assaulted by his principal Maurice Moser after he refused to take off a t-shirt which supported the formation of a Gay-Straight Alliance, and now, it appears that there’s a whole lot more bigotry and close-mindedness going on in this school system!
According to the state’s ACLU, Moser has repeatedly attempted to claim that a GSA in the school has not been formed because they cannot find a faculty sponsor, although they’ve been following a “disturbing trend” there where several members of the faculty have expressed interest in taking the job, only to go in for a meeting with the Principal and then leave “suddenly uninterested!”
Furthermore, while the Ass’t Director of Schools for Monroe County, Tim Blankenship, has reportedly told the press:
“The Monroe County School System is aware of the alleged accusations. We have received written statements from all eyewitnesses. Our documentation clearly indicates that there are always two sides to every story. We’ll gladly provide more information when it becomes available.”
According to Sigler’s mother, Linda, the Sheriff has not interviewed his sister, Jessica, who was the only other person in the during during the attack!
Shady shady shady!
It’s disgusting enough that this kind of man, an obvious bigot and homophobe, could treat the students – whose minds he’s supposed to be shaping and preparing for the real world – in this kind of despicable fashion, but the fact that the school district is not only enabling this kind of attitude, but attempting to protect this man by sweeping his behavior under the rug and attempting to silence the students, is just WRONG.
And people wonder why so many youths are out there, hopeless and alone and without the means to help themselves!
It’s because our ADMINISTRATION fosters and allows this kind of bullying and lack of value for people’s basic CIVIL RIGHTS from the inside out!
How are we supposed to teach our youth and their peers if we can’t even get our adults to stop the hate?!
The time for change is NOW. Enough is enough!
EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!
