Phew! Thank goodness he’s okay!
Gerard Butler had to be rescued from a huge wave while filming his surfing movie Of Men and Mavericks, a new movie about Santa Cruz surfer Jay Moriarty.
The actor was shooting at Mavericks, which is known as a treacherous surf break with gigantic waves, located in Northern California. He was swimming out with some surfing experts when a 15-foot wave rolled in, holdingunderwater for several minutes!!
Holy cow!!
A safety patrolman had to swoop in on a jet ski and save Butler. He was later taken in an ambulance to a local medical center – thankfully, he wasn’t seriously injured, just shaken up.
The movie features surfer Moriarty who conquered Mavericks as a teenager, but then died in a free-diving accident in 2001 when he was 23.
So scary! Those waves can get pretty high and REALLY dangerous. We’re just glad Gerard didn’t get hurt. Stop being such a tough guy!
