The case still isn’t closed, but sadly, it appears as if Natalee Holloway is dead after being missing for over 6 years.
Judge Alan King legally declared the teenager, who went missing during a high school graduation trip to Aruba in 2005, to be deceased on Thursday.
Dave Holloway, Natalee’s father, made the request back in September in order to settle her estate and free up funds set aside for her education. Beth Holloway opposed the request, but Thursday was the deadline the judge had set for evidence to be presented that shows Natalee did not die on that fateful trip.
Unfortunately, no new evidence proving otherwise turned up. The deceased girl’s mother, however, believes that there isn’t any evidence to prove she is dead either. Her lawyer explained:
“She was not able to, nor has she ever been able to, produce any evidence that Natalee was alive. Nor has there ever been any evidence produced that she was dead. Beth’s position is that if there’s that one sliver of hope that she can carry in her heart that Natalee might be alive somewhere, she wants to do that.”
And she is entitled to hold on to that hope and, in our opinion, her ex-husband is also allowed to move on.
Joran van der Sloot, the suspect believed to be responsible for Natalee’s disappearance, was sentenced to a 28 years in prison for another murder he admitted to, so hopefully some kind of justice has been served.
It’s been a long time coming, but rest in peace, Natalee! Obviously, you are and will continue to be missed by your family and friends!
