Sad. Sometimes, it hurts to think how much hate fills this world.
Daniel Zamudio, a 24 years old openly gay Chilean, died from brain damage Tuesday after he was brutally attacked in a park. The poor boy was brain dead and in critical condition for over three weeks due to the maliciousness, which was completely driven by ignorance.
As we understand it, four Neo-Nazis attacked him in a Santiago park, cutting off part of his ear, burning him with cigarettes and leaving Nazi symbols all over his body. The attack was obviously vicious and Zamudio’s family have released photos of the beating. (Though we found them too gruesome to share here)
Many in Chile were outraged when they learned of the attack and they have followed Zamudio’s condition very closely.
Jaime Parada, leader of the Homosexual Liberation Movement (MOVILH), said the following:
He is a victim of homophobia, of the hatred that some have towards those who have a different sexual orientation. Today, we consider him a martyr
Four gang member have been arrested and now that Zamudio has died, they will most likely be charged with murder.
We hope justice is truly served, for Daniel Zamudio’s sake.
