The MTV Movie Awards Add An 'Academy' Of Industry Voters

MTV Movie Awards changes voting process
The MTV Movie Awards are getting a MAJOR makeover this year! Not only are producers dropping categories and adding new ones, they have implemented a new voting system with an “academy” of Hollywood professionals.
Similar to the Oscars, awards will now be handed out based on performance and not popularity. Does that mean all of the big blockbusters like Twilight won’t win anything?
Eh, probably not. The fans still have a big say and big blockbusters like Twilight have seriously devoted fans (like us. LOLz!).
Still, MTV president Stephen Friedman said the purpose of the change is to “make sure some of the unexpected, smaller, quirkier films have a chance.”
So what we’re hearing is…Drive has a chance!
In case you’re wondering, fan voting begins May 1 right here. Take a peek at the five new categories you’ll be voting for and the five that got cut … AFTER THE JUMP!
