Although we had hoped for the best, we had a feeling that something completely shameful like this would happen!
Madonna fearlessly voiced her support for gay rights during her MDNA concert in St. Petersburg (as seen above), Russia, where sadly, laws prohibit homosexuality being promoted to minors, and now, the iconic pop star has been sued by nine activists for almost $10.5 MILLION!
According to Alexander Pochuyev, the lawyer representing them:
“No one is burning anyone at the stake or carrying out an Inquisition. Modern civilization requires tolerance and respect for different values.”
Okay, WHAT?
Is he listening to the words coming out of his own mouth?
We must have a completely different interpretation of what it means to be modern, tolerant, or respectful here, because none of those words are usually used to describe stripping people of their rights and liberties over something like sexual preference.
But then again, this is also from the country that put a band in jail for publicly speaking out against a political figure, so we guess we can’t expect much else!
Such an unbelievably sad shame.
But we doubt this will even remotely deter Her Madgesty from continuing to fight for equality and freedom of EXPRESSION!
