Weir Talks Clothing Line

Is it just us, or does it seem like Johnny Weir has been talking about designing his own clothing line for years now.

And again, the ice skater is chatting about his line, this time revealing he wants to be very involved on with his creations.

Unlike other celebs who just lend their names to items, such as Gisele Bundchen, Weir wants to be very hands on. Says the fur-lover:

“I definitely want to get a clothing line off the ground, but I need [to do] a lot of leg work. You don’t want to be somebody that has someone else make them a line of clothing and put their name on it. I want to be sewing buttons and putting fur trim on things myself.”

As for his own style, Weir admits he likes making statements, adding:

“I really admire Gareth Pugh, Viktor & Rolf, Karl Lagerfeld—avant-garde designers but still sort of mainstream. I want to have mass appeal.

I always have sunglasses on, even if it’s raining. Vintage Linda Farrow. Lots of Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton glasses. I got a Balenciaga turquoise bag from my agent—I like making a statement, and a man carrying a turquoise bag is a statement.”

Hopefully he doesn’t design any turquoise mens’ bags for his collection.

Thought he was going for mass appeal?
