How’s that for inspiration to get off of the couch and into some running shoes?
Rescued Chilean miner Edison Peña, nicknamed “The Runner” by his fellow miners, will be running this weekend’s New York City Marathon as a “special guest of honor”.
The 34-year-old spent his 69 long days trapped 2,300 feet underground running 3 to 6 miles everyday up and down a 1,000 yard dark path, which is no easy feat considering he was wearing steel-toed boots!
As to whether or not “The Runner” will be able to live up to his nickname and complete the entire marathon, he says:
“I’m running more than an hour a day, on the beach; I don’t know how many kilometers that is. I intend to run the entire 26-mile marathon.├óΓé¼┬¥
Any man who survives a mining disaster, then runs a marathon less than a month later deserves our absolute respect. We wish the best of luck to Edison “The Runner” Pe├â┬▒a this weekend!
