Because they “invited criminal behavior”!
A family has issued a wrongful death suit against Starbucks three years after the death of 54-year-old Roger Kreutz.
Kreutz chased down a 19-year-old petty thief after he nabbed a Starbucks tip jar containing less than $5, then was run over by the culprit after a brief struggle outside his car.
The 54-year-old died of head injuries, but naturally, the family is blaming the coffee company.
Their lawsuit alleges that Starbucks “did not employ security to prevent the perpetration of such crimes” and that it “invited the act of perpetration of said crime” by having a tip jar.
Furthermore, the lawsuit claims Kreutz was killed as a “direct and proximate” result of this and Starbucks had a duty to “exercise reasonable care” to protect him or at least give adequate warning against harm.
While we feel fro this family’s terrible loss as a result of this tragedy, we’re not sure how well their claim will hold up in court. However, stranger things have happened!
